but no one is saying that is feasible, the question was - is sinking the floor in that type of manner what the previous poster was referring to when he spoke of "floor seating" Dollars to donuts what they're talking about is filling in some of the gaps in the seats in the lower level. There is no way they need all of those openings, and those seats would sell for top dollar (unlike extra seats way up in the rafters). It wouldn't cost that much to install them, either. Easy peasy. That seating chart is old and was prior to losing some seats in the bottom left corner. Where the visitors and refs come out. The opening in the bottom right is needed, although not that big. The top right can go but the Zamboni one won't be touched

I don't recall any seats being lost in the bottom left corner. The ref/visitor entrance was/is tiny and doesn't displace many seats.
What is the purpose of the bottom right opening? All that ever happens there is Wheeler doing the 50/50 draw at Moose games. That is a huge number of potential seats sacrificed for no apparent purpose. Why can so many other NHL arenas get by with one big opening but we need two for some reason?

Just look here www.moosehockey.com/files/file/arena_seating_plan.pdfThe bottom right is the nearest entrence for the dressing room that are used for timbits, the big ice challange and is used by staff for what ever reasons. It is also what is called an elephant ear and is removable for whatever reason.

If the little kid school choirs that sing the anthem can handle the zamboni entrance, I'm sure the timbits would do fine. Considering that the space in question takes up nearly 100 seats which could be sold at about $100 a pop = $10,000/game = over $400,000 a season, I would think that Wheeler could be nicely asked to do the 50/50 draw at the zamboni entrance instead.

There are dressing rooms located right by the entrance for use by Timbits ect. In order for them to use the zamboni entrance they would have to walk around half the rink.

Could they do a ring of press box type private boxes (same level at press box) ?? without raising roof ? Yes. And I can confirm this has been told to TNSE.

We ALL have to make sacrifices to bring the NHL back to Winnipeg... sorry Timbits, but you're going to have to walk an extra 200 feet to the next entrance!

Its not just an entarance for TImbit hockey... Its the entrance for floor seats for concerts, and its where the MTScenters reataurant is located. The MTSCentre's restaurant I assume you refer to is "The Exchange Restaurant and Beer Market: The Exchange Restaurant & Beer Market is accessible to guests on a reservation basis during most events held at the MTS Centre, including Moose hockey. The Restaurant and Beer Market features some of the world’s finest Import and Specialty beer brands such as Stella Artois, Beck’s and Alexander Keith’s. In addition, the Exchange Restaurant showcases local food flavors including Manitoba Pickerel and Bison Ribs" link= www.mtscentre.ca/food/. I have eaten there and it is like eating in a basement. The food is good but not world class and I have had a better beer selection at Moxie's. If you can't see the rink why have it there at all? If this restaurant disappeared I would not be disappointed.

You can still have an entrance that takes up, say, 16 seats and not 100. The lower right side gap is massive... all you need is something the size that the refs/visitors skate through.

If if this expasion is true, awsome. But if it's set for an NHL, and we do get one for this upcoming season, when would this construction begin/end? And would it interfere with the hockey games in the arena? I just don't see major modifications to the arean being completed within a span of six months.

Regarding the rumors of construction at the MTS Centre, i don't think PCL would be involved as Chipman would likely use his own construction company (Nova Con), the same guys biulding the iceplex.

Possible but I believe in many large projects there can be more than 1 contractor involved. I would think some are better at certain things. One could be the main contractor and other the subcontractor??? Who knows. I don't think anything major would be done this offseason because True North probably won't have confirmation in time for modifications this year...possibly some minor mods though.

Perhaps this talk of expansion is where the Province's investment rumour comes in?
What would be the practical use of expanding the building's footprint? And how would this be done?
Was it not originally planned to have a larger footprint, hanging over the roads on either side? Someone refresh my memory!

What year is this map from? I have the same seating chart from 2005/06, and, on mine, the seats down by the ice in 102, 103, 109,, 111, 112, 113, 115, 116, 121 and 122 are all gold, but on this map they are copper (one price level cheaper). EDIT: looking at each of the corners, all the "openings" (where there are no seats) are the same size on my 2005/06 map as the one posted online. the bottom right opening is also the main "floor" entrance... there are concessions and washrooms at event level down here, along with access to The Exchange pub & restaurant, restricted areas (dressing rooms, loading dock, Centreplate office), elevator to all floors of the MTS Centre, and stairs to the main lobby. doubt they would want to seal all that off.

But you don't need such a massive opening... how much room do you really need for people to pass through? All of the other openings into the arena bowl are what, six feet wide tops? And here for some reason all that room is needed?
