I just watched Alexander Ovechkin score the first empty net goal that has sealed the deal for the Russians. Final score: Russia 7, United States 2.
So the Americans unfortunately won't get the rematch our country was hoping for. Far too many penalties to count against a potent Russian team with Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin on their power play unit.
Al Montoya wasn't sharp in the first period and it cost the United States. I cannot understand where his head was on the winning goal and the insurance tally.
Well guys, to start off this thread... I wish your boys the very best of luck on Tuesday night. Too bad that with the Americans getting knocked off in the semifinal round before a big crowd at Ralph Engelstad Arena, the Canada/United States championship game won't happen on native soil.
So beat the Russians for us. You've got a great team and a gold medal will be well deserved should you win!

Plenty of Jets supporters would have interest in this game and some could be there on Tuesday night to spread the awareness on the campaign.
It's not completely off-topic to the campaign itself. Winnipeggers and Jets fans have been going to the previous games so far in the tournament. So, their mission to spread the word has been working.

Oh, I was just about to say that I did see highlights of the Canada/Czech Republic semifinal during the intermissions on ESPN 2 and did see a couple of fans in the lower bowl seats wearing Jets road jerseys. I saw them from the low corner camera angle.
Good to see them there!
By the way, will you guys that plan to go down there be taking some pictures? Especially if you're in Jets gear, let's see them!

If Ovechkin or Mallkin try anything funny like diving, hot dogging, taunting or showing off I want Dion Phaneuf and Shea Webber to put them in their place.
Sidney Crosby has been quiet the last two games, I expect him to have a big game against Russia.
Go Canada Go Go Jets Go

Anyone here have any tickets they want to give away? Either free or not. LOL
The game's set to be a beauty.
I want tickets so bad for this game. I would drive down there on a moments notice.

I don't have any tickets but I bet you can easily get tickets outside the arena, since a lot of american hockey fans won't want to see a Can-Rus final. I'm just not sure how much they will charge?

Russia wins 4-2. Malkin will have a goal and an assist and Ovechkin will have 2 goals. Vorobiev will also pot a goal. I believe this will happen (though I hope it does not because of many factors). A. We face 11 shots a game so far and the Russians will obviously put up more of a test than 11 shots. I don't care how good our D is it's not gonna be enough to stop the number 1 and 2 draft picks. Glass lets in a bad goal to make it 2-2 and it's downhill from there. B. Canada has has a terrible time closing the deal. Leads disinigrate in the 3rd period and it would not suprise me to see it again. C. Our aggressiveness will hurt us. We'll be on the penalty kill so much due to the aggressiveness of our team and the fact the the refereeing will be very poor as it always is in the finals. D. The big play makers WON'T make plays. Dawes line will be shut down, and our top point getters will be held to limited scoring.
Those are the reasons I feel we'll lose. I hope we won't but I'm tired of everyone saying that we're so good when (NEWS FLASH EVERYONE) We haven't played anyone. The Czechs were our best competition so far and even they leave much to be desired such as defense. But I now will digress and wait for you all to try to tell me I'm incorrect and prove to me I'm wrong!

1st things 1st, Who really cares what forum it goes on? honesty, people complaining about which forum somthign is posted on is 1 million times MORE annoying than somone posting somthign on the wrong forum.
so, Paul, thanks for your support... we will go out there are hopefully show Russia which Country is the best when it comes to hockey. (canada of course)
Trevor, i have similar worries as you do... I think our goalies are going to be cold as hell, they are yet to be tested. I still think that Canada has a good shot at it. Russia is going to go into the game feeling intimidated, because of how we have blown everyone out of the water, and because we are a very physical team. They will be the under dog, with nothign to lose, but i don't think that will work against Canada because of the amazing job our sutter coach has done with the team. Its going to be a tight game thats for sure.

Russia, has the 1 and 2 draft. But remember we have one of the next GREATS ocmmin up croby(who will be number 1) perry is second goals scoer ina ll junior points to crosby. So wer enott o shabby either.
Trevor, do you relaly think ovechkin and malek are gonna Go race to the puck against weber or phaneuf, i bet you thye wont. Russians are babies thats Just hwo they are,
I agree with you that im not to high on JEFF GLASS, he lets in soft goals, Im not his biggest fan.
But i do believe this is our year!
HERE WE GO CANADA HERE WE GO!!!.
Dont worry the gold medal woulda had more canadians then americans anways haha. We out drew them in the tourny ;D

Ovechkin is the biggest hot dog I have ever seen. This guy will get killed in the NHL if he pulls the same stunts. Before the start of the second period, he skates down towards Montoya and pretends to deke him out. And this is before the puck has been dropped or teh players line up for faceoff. Then he scores to make it 5-2 into an empty net. After celebrating the goal, he skates past the American bench and points at his jersey and then blows a kiss at them. If this was Team Canada, the guy would have been killed. The guy is good but is a hot dog at teh same time. No roomn for the hot dogging.

They should play Beuchmin, the reason Glass was the starter is because he came from a team that averaged 20 shots against in a game so they knew he could handle standing around doing Go Jets Go all then stopping the puck.
Against the Russians it should be a closer game and there should be more shots against Canada, and Beuchmin hasn't let in a goal in two International games. (Sure it was against Swiss and Germany but a confident hot goalie is key)
I'm not a 100 percent serious but if I was the coaching staff it would have been something I'd consider.
Either way I'll enjoy my view from the Upperdeck.

Wow, thats absolutely insane how many people are trying to scalp off their tickets. Crazy fools, its a Canada Russia game! How could it get any better? I'd stay to watch a USA-Russia game here for sure.
