Ovechkin and Malkin are 2 of the top 3 scorers in the tournament. I'd like to change my answer tho, I had a dream last night it was 3-2 Russia with a mad Canadian flurry at the end that came up short. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

I strongly disagree with all you guys saying the Canadians will "KILL" Oveckin and Malkin. Ovechkin has been "pulling these stunts" for 3 years now. Yet Canada still hasn't crippled him. I read the post calling Oveckin a hotdog and my eyes LIT UP! Perhaps you didn't see Sidney Crosby's goal where he brought it up on his stick from behind the net and flicked it over the goalie's shoulder. Did I mention it was with a 4-0 score that favoured Rimouski.... hmmm hot dog you say? ;D

Thats not hot dog. Thats SKILL.
Listen he didnt do anything liek ovechkin did, Ovechkin is fricken going to the oppsite hockey bench and slapping there gloves, or goin to the crowd i cant here you, or telling em to shush, with his fingure over his mouth, or shoving his jersey in there faces.
If you played hockey you know from day 1 that stuff is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Sure he is a talented player, but you dont do that kidna stuff, its very immature he also looks like a complete clown out there. If i did that when i was playing hcokey my dad would KICK Go Jets Go.

Jesse, I hate to point out but you're TERRIBLY bias! Haha! Seriously man! How can you say it's not as bad. He was kickin' the goalie when he was down. He'd already let in 4 goals, the game was out of reach. Had it been 2-2 and in OT (like in the college hockey game where the Minnesota player pulled it off) then i have NO beef. But it was 4-0 in the 3rd. GAME OVER end of story Jesse. Once a hotdog always a hot dog, I don't care what the degree was!

Why does everyone call that move of Crosby a hotdog move. And sure the score was 4-0 thats probably the only reason that he would try something like that.
Crosby is so much better then Ovechkin its unbelievable. Crosby actually moves and hustles and hits and digs to get the puck, while rest assure that Ovechkin will not move out of the slot and just wait for the puck to get to him.
And I guarentee that if Ovechkin or malkin pull any of that show boating crap that they will be crunched.
CANADA 5-2!!!!! WOOO

Until you see Ovechkin play don't bash him. Yes, it WAS a hotdog move, I hate how you're all so terribly bias. Secondly, Oveckin does skate, infact he's faster than Crosby. He may sit in the slot but have you seen Crosby's goals at the tournament? All from the side of the net. Quit being so fkn' bias!

I have seen both play, and no I'm not sayin Ovechkin isn't good. He has incredible skills, all I'm saying is that crosby is better. I still stand by that if it wasnt a blow out game then he would never have tried it as it was a risky move.
But that being said, I see crosby as more of a Franchise player while Ovechkin will be a great player but not really a fracnchise. Kind of like Bure except bigger

Ovechkin was shut down big time. Crosby scored a lot of his goals at the side of the net but it came from his hard work in the corners, deking out players on his knees, and causing numerous turnovers. Ovechkin stands in the slot and waits for his team mates to do all the work and pass the puck to him.
Crosby is the better player hands down. And no I am not biased. Last year I didn't know what the big deal was with crosby. But when I saw him play at the World juniors this year and dominate offensively in all areas I knew he deserved all the credit.

Hey you're welcome buddy. Atleast I had the balls to call it. Why don't you step up and sign up instead of rippin' me as a guest. I know enough hockey to fill a warehouse. I called Bergeron being the top point getter of the tourny so you can look that one up and stick it in your ear. Game didn't turn out like I thought it would. I thought we'd get a Euro ref and that they'd also put some in on the PP. Sorry for having some balls and calling my opinion instead of blacksheeping in with the rest of the group!

Well the Canadians destroyed the russians! Trevor, i respect you for having the balls to make an honest pick, I was worried that the Canadians might get cold feet, mainly the goalies, but i knew they would pull through. I sure thought the game would be alot closer than it was. As for the Crosby/Ovechkin comments people were talking about earlier... Ovechkin will get pillaged in the NHL if he keeps his cocky attitude. there is no question about it, that stuff doesn't fly. I am surprised Jager never got run over when he acted the way he often did. As for what Trevor was saying about Crosbys goal behinde the net when he lifted it on his stick and threw it in the net... Trevor is right, that was a little overboard.
GOLD FOR CANADA W00T W00T!!!

Thanks Ian, and don't get me wrong I wanted Canada to win and like Crosby a lot. But I thought that we'd actually face a shot count and that Glass might not be so sharp! Glad it wasn't the case tho! Go Canada Go... gold medal... how sweet it is! ;D

Canadians buoy U.S. tourney
By PAUL FRIESEN, SPORTS COLUMNIST
GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- It's been the most successful World Junior Hockey Championship ever held in the United States -- thanks in large part to Canadians. A sellout crowd for last night's Canada-Russia gold-medal final -- the first sellout of the tournament -- pushed attendance at the 2005 world junior to just under 200,000.
That ranks the event second in world junior history, ahead of Winnipeg in 1999 (173,453), but behind Halifax in '03 (242,173).
That number may be misleading, however. Cut-rate ticket prices, even substantial giveaways as the tournament progressed, means the event won't record anywhere near the profit of Winnipeg or Halifax.
And without the sea of red-and-white clad fans pouring over the border these last 10 days, many from Manitoba, organizers might actually be counting losses today.
"It wouldn't work," conceded Chris Semrau, part of the Ralph Engelstad Arena's marketing team. "That's what's given this event the non-tangible element that it needed -- the enthusiasm and spirit of the Canadian fans."
Never was that more evident than last night, as flag-waving, screaming Canucks, many with their faces and bodies adorned with the Maple Leaf, made up the vast majority of the 11,000-plus in attendance.
Semrau says 90% of the single-game tickets available for the final were scooped up by Canadians, who obviously believed all along their team would reach the big game.
In addition, many of the American ticket-holders who'd purchased tournament packages had been busy unloading them since Team USA, the defending champ, was relegated to yesterday's bronze-medal game.
No doubt, Canadian fans were eager to oblige, scouring the Internet and local newspaper ads or braving the sub-zero temperatures to negotiate with a scalper outside the arena.
There is no law against scalping in North Dakota, and some opportunists were asking $150-$200 a seat an hour before the game.
But there were deals to be had, too, as brothers Mitch and Jared Penner of Swan River, found out.
"Canada rocks!" Mitch, 18, said, after talking a scalper down to $50 for an upper-level seat as his ears froze near the main entrance to The Ralph. "We weren't planning on being here. We just happened to be rolling through Grand Forks."
Inside, you would have thought you were in Winnipeg, as Team Canada was greeted by a wild, patriotic throng of supporters.
All through the tournament, Team Canada games outdrew Team USA, which, on one level, disappointed organizers who hoped the event would captivate Americans for the first time.
"We did hope we could sell out at least one of the U.S. games," Semrau said. "And none of them were."
At the same time, the event did represent a step forward for junior hockey in the States, particularly when you consider it was hosted by a city of just 50,000 and still easily outdrew Boston in '96, the last time the tournament was held in the U.S.
And it will turn a profit, even after organizers turn over an $800,000 guarantee to USA Hockey.
"We're not sure how much profit above that," Semrau said. "Not significant. Not hundreds of thousands of dollars."
Winnipeg recorded a profit of $2.04 million, while Halifax set a record of $3.68 million.
Next year's world junior is in Vancouver.
