Don't be so sure on Phoenix. There is a interested party that's quietly making progress. You know what they say, 59th time's the charm.

Winnipeg to Houston Jk I hope Florida, Phoenix, Carolina, or Nashville move to Seattle, Hartford, Quebec, Portland. I've spent significant time in Portland and Seattle, neither city will support a NHL team. IMO. Both are great cities, but the passion for hockey is just not there. I don't know man, doesn't Washington State have 6 WHL teams, the same number as BC? And I'm also pretty sure that most to all of them do pretty well.

Give it a few years and Florida will fail. No one will keep it in Phoenix without the city paying them to. Only Quebec and Hamilton have owners so thats where the teams have to go.

Houston isn't ready for a team mainly because they don'y have anyone willing to take a gamble on hockey in Texas... see Dallas, its basically either Hamilton or Quebec City that have owners. Leslie Alexander may be interested. He used to be and never said he was or wasn't anymore. Seattle isn't going to come up with an arena for at least 5 years. If they do get an arena the 1st choice will be the NBA. This weekend at Safeco Field for a Mariners game the honored all the former great Supersonic players. I think Phoenix to Quebec is almost certainly a lock - emphasis on "almost" at the moment... And if it takes a few years for Seattle to shape up for a team, then so be it. Perhaps by then the Panthers will be available!

WHL/NHL pretty big difference. $975.00 for season tickets for the best seats in the house for the Thunderbirds. Like I said IMOI don't think it would work there. I may be wrong.

I agree with you about Phoenix. You may be right some day about Florida 5-10 years down the line. Show me one source where Leslie Alexander said he was no longer interested in the NHL in Houston. Remember he tried to get an expansion team and also tried for the Edmonton Oilers way back. I don't think the NHL wants to go to Hamilton due to Toronto/Buffalo. Remember Buffalo is already the smallest market in the NHL and it is declining in population. It can ill afford losing the Hamilton market.

Perhaps by then the Panthers will be available! Given how sucessful the move to Winnipeg was Quebec City would be a lock except for one thing. They don't have funding for an arena completed. I think Quebec will go on a few years bickering over the arena. What they need to do is come up with a smaller cheaper arena. Maybe not as small as Winnipeg but at least knock off 1000 seats. 18,000 seats is way too big for a market Quebec Citys size. Since Quebec City won't be ready for a while thats why i think they will get the Islanders. It would work out perfectly. The Isles have 4 years left on the lease and it may take QC that amount of time to figure things out. Phoenix needs to move for sure after next year. The give aways from the Glendale City counsil are coming to an end. Houston is ready now. They have the arena. Its no accident they are holding a preseason game this fall just like Winnipeg did last year.

Phoenix to Quebec was my vote, too.
About Hartford, though. There is a potential owner in Howard Baldwin, who owned the Whalers in the 80s. There is an arena, but it either needs serious upgrades or to be torn down and a new one built. Baldwin has been on the news lately urging CT fans to show up for AHL games, saying that they should look to Winnipeg to see what needs to be done to bring hockey back to Hartford. He estimated that, if it ever was to happen, it wouldn't likely be for another 9-10 years. At least he's realistic about it and isn't saying he'll get a team in Hartford in 2 years. Baldwin has had an office in Hartford for about a year now. Everybody knows what his ultimate goal is, and it's not to make the Connecticut Whale a success. So we'll see. Would be awesome to have NHL hockey back in Hartford, but it seems like a long shot. At least Baldwin is sort of friendly with Bettman.
