Bieksa would be a great signing. Familiar with Winnipeg, TNSE, and a top notch defenceman. I don't think the Canucks can afford to re-sign him, so he'll hit the market for sure. With all of that cap space, the Jets should definitely make a push.

There is no one to spend good money on, so don't bother.
Better not see Jagr in the talk.... Selanne for realistic price. I'd like to some more ex-Chi players signed

How about Steinbach's Ian White... after spending the last year of his contract with 3 different teams, and still a shot at a Cup this spring, does he opt to sign close to home in search of some stability?

I dont see them going after anyone except maybe a journyman type player at a low cost and see whats in the system.
Remember,we are not gonna throw out tons of money to players, when we should be around the $45m on the payroll.
I think it will be a year or two before we know how much money this team will make in a season, and how much TNSE will be willing to spend.

Thats because he is small for an NHL defenseman and very inconsistant in his play. We're better off giving a young player the ice time and letting him develope.

Great Idea to start this thread....time to start talking hockey bigtime!!! Need to start a thread talking about the 'existing' team' coming to town that we can add UFA's to!! Some great young talent coming to Winnipeg and a real solid young goalie in Pavelec with great upside....but definitely has a couple issues to cure! One or 2 decent UFA's with experience will be a big help to this team!! ....and moving Byfuglien back to forward!

If only this team had a Power Forward that played wing on the top line of a Stanley Cup Championship team... Blake wheeler has potential to be a good power forward

don't trade the 7th overall pick. But I like the idea of Bieksa. Who knows if he'll want to leave, but if the nucks win the cup, he may be more apt to bolt, and come "home".

Bieksa is... +32 in 66 games this year.....best year by far +7 in 17 playoff games this year....best year by far If he can keep that going in the future then he for damn sure is a Top 2 D! The question is can he? ....and if he can then he would look GREAT in our colours!!!

I would like to see our team sign Aaron Asham (from Portage la Prairie) - gritty veteran. They don't need to sign any defencemen (unless they trade Bogosian), except for maybe Shane Hnidy (from Neepawa) as a #7. I don't see them signing any big name free agents this summer. The biggest need is probably at right wing. Michael Ryder would be nice, or perhaps they could trade for Eric Fehr (maybe for Anthony Stewart and a prospect like Ivan Telegin or Levko Koper).

just don't be stupid like the Oilers were a few years ago...build via the draft...it suits the market... They're the reason why my opinion is never to trade away picks or try to steal other teams rfa's. Even though they finished last again it was fun watching their rookies play and as they grow the team will get better. Having a knowledgeable fanbase watch a team develop really makes them feel apart of it as well, IMO. Ufa's should only be for depth and rounding out your 3rd/4th lines. I haven't made an effort yet to take close look at the Thrashers current roster and depth so I can't make any judgement calls on what direction I hope the team takes at the draft and free agency.

Well Selanne would be a treat, but realistically,in terms of reasonably priced free agents that could potentially fill some of the team's holes over the long term, Ryder, Laich, Fleishmann, and Vrbata would all be good fits. On the defensive side, the addition of Bieksa, who loves Winnipeg, would be a dream. Their blue line scoring would be the best in the league. Also Ehrhoff would work great with Enstrom and Buff, would be a great fit. This team already has some of the leagues best production from the blue line. This team needs a solid shut down Dman. Jovo? That would be horrible. Jovo is anything but a solid shut down D man.

IF this team was going to sign a UFA for next season, what they need is someone to play RW with Kane and Burmistrov.
Good fits would be:
Vrbata Jussi Jokinen Ryder
An I agree with others that posted that the new Winnipeg franchise should NEVER trade 1st round picks.
This franchise is going to have to build through the draft and only look at the UFA market to plug some holes now and again.
And FYI, Philly is not going to trade Richards.

With all of that cap space, the Jets should definitely make a push. Bieksa would be a great addition however: 1. He plays a shutdown role with Dan Hamhuis and I don't know how he'd do with the Thrasher's defense. He started playing extremely well when he was paired with Hamhuis (he played like Go Jets Go before that). 2. I think Salo is coming off the books and the Canucks will be looking to sign either Bieksa or Ehrhoff. If they send Ballard down to the minors (not likely) or trade him away they'll be able to retain both. 3. Bieksa has stated that he loves playing in Vancouver and that he'd accept a pay cut to end out his career there. I love the grit Bieksa brings as well. Also keep in mind Mike Gillis could have traded him, and it was widely speculated that he would considering his abysmal play in the beginning of the season, but he took a chance and Bieksa was paired with Hamhuis and he was retained.

ILYA BRYZGALOV, no doubt about it... 10 years, $250 million (to make up for the lack of parks in Winnipeg). Salary cap shmalary cap. Parise (rfa), I can't see Winnipeg giving up similar (or more) draft picks that Toronto did for Kessle. Unfortunately, as far as the draft is concerned, I can't imagine Hubredreau still being available . And, yes, this is jumping the gun a little, but whatever.

OK PEOPLE.....I am starting to think most of you don't know anything about hockey.....
First.....Selanne will not come back and play here unless Ana won't pay him and they will....
Second....Philly are not going to trade there C and best two way player
Now a bunch of you have brought up Bieksa which I would think would be a good pick up if we traded a Def for another draft pick....if not we are pretty loaded in the back end with eight possible starters.
So First thing we do is draft either Sean Couturier who was ranked number 2 going into this year or Ryan Strome. Both are very talented Centers and will help us up the middle
Then we go after Jussi Jokinen and Ville Leino......Both are good point getters and strong top six two way forwards. Both happen to be from Finland and would probably like playing here. Each would probably only cost in the 3 million range and would be great additions to play with Ladd, Little and Kane. We would then have two pretty solid lines with a good core of Def and goaltending.
Just my two sents worth......but please stop putting on here players that have no chance of coming here or being traded for....if were going to talk about this lets do it with some common sense.....

Love it boomer! If we got Leino, and Jokinen we could start building something special. Its nice to have all this cap space to spend. I have a feeling that there are alot of players out there that would be excited to come to Winnipeg for their first year! Can't wait to see what happens!

This year's Thrashers team has three UFAs:
Radek Dvorak (#2/#3 RW) - I'd replace him with Vrbata or Kobasew (or obviously Selanne) Eric Boulton (#4 LW / fighter) - I'd replace him with Tanner Glass or Steve MacIntyre Freddy Meyer (#7 D) - I'd replace him with Steve Eminger or Andy Greene
But to answer the original question, I think Couturier/Huberdeau/Strome (whoever we draft at #7) will be the first to dawn the new Jets jersey.
