Hey bud, Eric Lindros wouldnt have turned down Winnipeg if we drafted him. You never know. Lindros' parents called the shots. They wouldn't let him play for the Soo Greyhounds when they drafted him either. Lindros was a spoiled brat.

>:(Belanger: 'Quebec before Winnipeg' By QMI AGENCY Last Updated: April 1, 2011 10:27am www.torontosun.com/sports/hockey/2011/04/01/17836491.htmlWhile talk of possibly moving the Phoenix Coyotes to Winnipeg is getting most hockey fans excited, especially those in Winnipeg, Coyotes forward Eric Belanger is among the minority that are not thrilled with the idea. While this is just the latest turn in the ongoing saga surrounding his team, Belanger isn't about to ignore the issue and hope it blows over. He knows that the Coyotes' days in the dessert are likely numbered, but Belanger, who rarely minces words, doesn't see Winnipeg as a dream destination. “The guys have been talking about it a bit more every day, and the one sure thing is that we want to play in Phoenix and not in Winnipeg,” said Belanger. “ Personally, and I won't name any names, but I've chatted with guys that have played (in Winnipeg) and don't want to go back. There are reasons why hockey wasn't working in Winnipeg at the end, I don't see how that would have changed.” Belanger, who has also played for the Los Angeles Kings, Carolina Hurricanes, Atlanta Thrashers, Minnesota Wild and Washington Capitals says he has nothing against the Winnipeg hockey fans that are desperate to see a team back in their city. “ There are good fans there, but Winnipeg is still Winnipeg,” Belanger said. “In January and February, I doubt that my family would follow me out there for a holiday.”Belanger added that while the preference of he and his teammates is to stay in Arizona, Quebec would be the front-runner over Winnipeg if they had to choose. “It's different in Quebec,” Belanger said. “They are the same fans, but the economy seems to really be rolling along. The guys that I talk to loved playing in Quebec. You can't go to practice in shorts and t-shirts like I did this morning, but Quebec is attractive. At least there are things to do there!”
Added Belanger: “In the mind of the players, it's Quebec before Winnipeg, for sure.”SMALL CROWDS While he wants to see the Coyotes stay in Phoenix, Belanger doesn't hide the fact that the empty stands at the arena bother players. “We can't blame our fans,” Belanger said. “It's been two years that they have been wondering if the club would be moving, and they will come back when it is settled.“When these markets are having trouble, it's less money in our pockets. But do we want to go to Winnipeg for an extra 1 or 2%? I'm not so sure.” --------------- Add Belanger to the list of players who aren't welcome when the team moves. I wonder if he was talking about Shane Doan when he mentioned players that have played in WPG before that don't want to go back. Who else would it be? Winnipeg has completely changed since 1996. But that's only evident to people that actually live here. And I'm sure Calgary and Edmonton's weather is just as bad as ours in winter. Also, you are a HOCKEY player. Hockey is a cold weather sport. Hello??? McFly???

Indeed. Although, when you look at Winnipeg as not having much to do or w/e and compare that to some of the other towns in the minors, is there really a comparison?
About his comments, meh. He is not the first and probably won't be the last to say some comments. Plus, its Belanger, not the biggest loss.
I'm just more concerned with the lack of common sense. I mean be a professional and he basically almost threw some guys under the bus who probably won't be too happy (if one of them is a current team-mate anyway, who knows). It is funny seeing pro-hockey players talk about economics in a city he more than likely has no clue about.
At the end of the day though, nothing to get too riled about. It is April Fools after all!

When asked where he would prefer to play Dustin Byfuglien picked Winnipeg over Quebec City. Why didn't the QMI Agency print that? Classic Quebecor, they like to put Winnipeg down every chance they get. I wonder what their motives are?...

If either Phx or Atl come to Winnipeg for next season, then all of these losers who shoot their mouths off had better pray to be traded or just flat out retire, because they will pay the price for bashing Winnipeg. They will be ran (or boo-ed, rather) right out of town by the rabid fanbase, and rightfully so.

You guys are taking this too seriously. He would rather play in Québec city closer to his family then in Winnipeg. Nothing wrong with that. Sounds like you need to get your head out of your Go Jets Go as well. READ HIS COMMENTS!!!

It is possible that Belanger got the idea about Winnipeg not necessarily from people who have played for the Jets or the Moose, but people who have played against the Jets and Moose who have been there...

Belanger is from Sherbrooke, Quebec. What do you expect him to say?
I'll give him this; at least he was being honest.
Note to Belanger: This is a hockey market. You are a hockey player. Guess what? We have snow, and snowstorms, and we eat, sleep, dream hockey -- even in the summer months. If you work hard game in & game out, then you will treated like Rock Stars. But if you're just here to collect a cheque and can't wait to hit the golf course, then you're better off staying in PHX, or FLA, or any other retirement locale -- you're not welcome in my Winnipeg.
