Winnipeg doesn't want Eric Belanger to come here.
There. That's agreed then.

warm climate vs cold climate the choice well-paid athletes desire the most ?
this is why players prefer phoenix over winnipeg its not economics, or the people.........its the damn weather.
they'd rather play in +30 C with 7 000 fans per game, than venture out in the cold -30 C temperature where 15 000 + fans would be doing the same , to watch a game
it's rather pathetic for a player to even say anythign like 'he doesn't want to play in winnipeg "

You never had fans to begin with, the 15 years of money hemorrhaging proves that. The Regina Pats have better attendance than you...
Hockey is, and always will be merely an afterthought in Arizona.

More importantly, what business school did Belanger graduate from? Until he has, his thoughts vis a vis the Winnipeg economic model don't really merit mention.

Manitoba is the greatest place on earth... ive been to europe, and i'd take the flat plains over the Austrian Alps anyday That's part of my point though ... we're not just flat plains. To the East we have the great Canadian Shield. To the North we have the muskegs and 'mountains'. Don't laugh, but if you have ever been up the ski lifts on Mount Agassiz and look out at the lake, or driving out of the Duck Mountains looking down on Minetonas, you'll know what I'm talking about. To the South, we have the valleys and ecarpments. And to the West, we have the rolling hills and escarpment. Somewhere in the mess also lays the prairies and a DESERT! .... Manitoba is unparalleled.

This is upsetting to me... I'm getting really sick of all the Winnipeg bashing, this city has great potential and there is lots to do in Winnipeg especially in the winter, Festival du Voyageur, skiing, skating, snowboarding ect.! I find he was extremely unprofessional, not to mention he really didn't do his homework on this situation, AT ALL. He only made himself look like a fool and a jerk. Congratulation Eric, I, most definitely, will be booing you (if you ever come here..).

I've lived all over the world, but I've left every place. Always seem to find myself back here.
It's the people.
Manitoba has all the intangibles going for it. More than makes up for the lack of entertainment options, name recognition, or nice weather.
That said, try selling a professional you're looking to hire on "the intangibles". Not going to work. Belanger's comments are understandable, but still classless and inexcusable.

I agree, but if it helps, he's the only one really bashing Winnipeg in the media, and this is just an interview resurfacing that was already posted here about a month ago. Most players say nothing but good things about Winnipeg, but yes, we should remember that Belanger can kiss our A$$!

no... Brock said the only good thing about Winnipeg WAS the zoo. thanks for the clarification. It's all coming back to me now. Get rid of the star player who doesn't like Winnipeg and go on to win the next Grey Cup. Actually his complaint at the time was that there wasn't much to do in Winnipeg. "How many times can you go to the zoo?" was the quote that made headlines. Shortly afterwards he was traded to Hamilton.

Sounds like Doan has been running his mouth to the rest of the players about how bad Winnipeg potentially is. I for one hope he never comes here if we get the Yotes. What a disgrace to the Jets he has been.

Here is my problem with this comments:
NHL players get paid a lot of money. That money comes from fans buying tickets, fans buying merchandise, and fans watching / listening to games on TV and radio. TV and Radio stations pay big money to buy the rights to games because they have an assumption on ratings.
This money that gets spent in Canada and the northern United States flow to the players in sunbelt locations via revenue sharing. Players like Bellanger have the ability to play hockey in Phoenix become some guy in Edmonton paid $150 to watch the Oilers. Some guy in Winnipeg is watching HNIC or Sportsnet, which creates ratings, which make the TV contracts more lucrative ... which flow to teams like Phoenix.
It is unbelievably ignorant for someone like Ballanger to not understand HOW HIS TEAM CAN PAY HIM large sums of money even though nobody is in the stands. Does he ever wonder: Hmmm, I wonder how they keep finding ways to send me 50K per week even though nobody seems to watch our games???

Hey Eric...heres an idea why don't you stick to playing hockey and maybe someday you get good at it? The amount of junk that comes out of some players mouths...not bright!

He should be introduced to the family down the street from me. Came here from Australia on an exchange program a couple of years back. They're now currently looking to buy a house in Winnipeg because they miss it so much. Or maybe the guy from Kansas at MPI the other day who moved here because "there's just more money to be made in Manitoba".
We won't need assclows like Eric Belanger. Dumb prick has never even set foot Winnipeg yet he's made his mind up. Blow me
He's right at the top of my list of players to boo

You guys are taking this too seriously.
He would rather play in Québec city closer to his family then in Winnipeg. Nothing wrong with that.

Quebec City would probably have more trouble attracting players than Winnipeg, definitely non francophone players. Montreal has alot of English speaking and bilingual residents, QC not so much. According to wikipedia, only 1.5% of residents within QC's metropolitan area are anglophone. No bash on QC, I hope we both get teams, but I think the language barrier will make it tough for them to attract anglophones. Personally, as an anglophone, it would be tough for me to live in Quebec City.
