You guys are taking this too seriously. He would rather play in Québec city closer to his family then in Winnipeg. Nothing wrong with that. then just say that, its not a reason to put down winnipeg as a city.

Winnipeg on the other hand has a large bilingual population, and the largest Francophone community in Canada west of the Great Lakes. I believe would be able to attract French and English speaking players, although Quebecers would obviously prefer to play in Quebec.

People! We will hear lots of anti-Winnipeg statements as this story gets told and a team lands here. All will see we are the best fans in the world living in one of the most unique places in the world! A place that is moving forward and has much more to offer than many places in North America...

Actually, I highly doubt we will see many, if any, more anti-Winnipeg statements (at least not from players). I agree that once people are here in Manitoba the place will grow on them, and they'll like it more than they thought, but not many people are classless like Belanger.

isn't this article old...that or I just had deja vu...it is sad...Shane Doan is the influential voice in the Coyotes dressing room and started an anti-Winnipeg meme among the players...it's just like any other work place...Winnipeg has been deemed 'uncool' by the most influential person in the room and it spreads...this from a guy that was born and raised in hick town Alberta on the Canadian prairies and has forgot where he's from and where he learned the game...i hope TNSE is taking note and if we get the Coyotes/Jets makes sure Doan is traded to the Florida Panthers or some other obscure franchise in a place where hockey is ranked 10th most popular sport...I'd hate to see his jersey retired by a Winnipeg franchise...just wouldn't seem right...now come the people defending Doan....sheesh...

What did Doan say in this interview??? I'm not a big Doan defender, but I don't really have anything against him either. He's never said anything bad about Winnipeg, just defended Phoenix (foolishly, to some extent). Belanger is the tool here, not Doan. If Belanger is even telling the truth about former Winnipeg players saying anything bad about the 'Peg, as ducky said it could be any number of players who played here in the minors. Either way i think he's straight up lying or badly twisting/exagerating anything he has heard.

I understand being an older player not wanting to move, regardless of where the team goes.
But who cares if some would be turned off, there are tons of players that would do anything for an NHL spot. That would fill the 4th and 3rd line. Some can be bought (especially considering 3 million a year will take you SO much further in Winnipeg than in New York or Vancouver), and others, like Teemu did, will love the atmosphere as it is.
Players who talk economics sound ridiculous.

Belanger is talking out his a$$. Plus based on his track record of wearing out welcomes it's likely he will be looking for a 7th franchise to play for.

All I have to say is to those NHL players that dont want to play here stay in arizona or get traded same goes for any thrashers players. I'm sick of players bashing a city that they have never played in. If you want to know what it was like to play here then talk to some players that know like Selanne who loved it here.
It just drives me nuts boo freaking whoo once the team is here and the players will realize what a great city this is.

Meh, he's a tool. If it's the Coyotes that come back I'm sure he's done. Trade him to Florida so he can continue wearing his shorts and play infront of 500 people. See ya!!!

Frankly, the Coyotes have a solid core of young players. The future isn't now, it's in a few years for this franchise. If the Coyotes come here, I say trade Doan for some draft picks or future prospects.
