Terrestrial Radio sucks. I left my car at Earls last night and had to get a ride in with a buddy who had his radio on Power and I couldn't help but cringe at how annoying Wheeler and that girl are. She actually might be worse then him. The other guy seems ok though. My $12 a month Sirius subscription is money well spent in my opinion.

Speaking personally anyway, the anti-Wheeler sentiment isn't from this joke (which I didn't hear) as a one-off.... it's just more of the same over the past decade from him. More insulting is his new "it's gonna happen!!!!!1" stance. Which is a complete contradiction to his continual efforts to take shots at DF/ROTJ over the years. Agreed.

It's gratifying to me to see so many people sharing my "dislike" of Wheeler. Can't stand the guy and hope he loses his job when the NHL comes back.

What I meant by the comparison is it will draw people to come look at the site. Not everyone is totally aware of what this site is actually about or what information is on here. And like some have said it was a joke, who cares, there was no malicious intent behind it at all. I am pretty sure DF has pretty thick skin and stuff like this really doesn't phase him, after all alot worse has probably been said about him when he first started out with this. And I am pretty sure we all know what is really going on, don't we all come on here at least once a day to check things out. I know I do.

To me, I have for years been PO'd with Power 97, because I can take a joke about things, I can't stress that enough that I don't get offended by jokes. But as hannusmail said, it's not about the one-off jokes. Power 97 is major media in Winnipeg, and they have a chance to either get on board with helping to bring a team back, or to convince people that it's nothing more than a pipedream, and consistantly for as long as I can remember they have chosen the latter. For people on this site it doesn't matter, we know the situation. But there are many casual fans out there who would like a team back, but don't stay up to date, and don't realize what may happen. Because of Power 97 (and other media, particularly in the past) I am sure there are several people out there who believe it's a pipe dream, that could have been public supporters of the idea and helped to create more buzz. If Power 97 supported the idea from day 1, they could make all the jokes they want, no matter how offensive (and this one wasn't even offensive). But it's the way they have done nothing to help the cause over the years that makes me want to see them fail.

speaking of casual fans not keeping up to up to date things.. this site should be advertised in the freepress for more people to sign up.

I'm not much to make comments on this but hey, it's radio, most is done for ratings. We're talking about it, we've said Wheeler over and over, we've said Power over and over.
I love coming and here for news but as someone who is new to the group, it's truly amazing how this group take everything as either completely positive or completely negative. Maybe it's a Winnipeg thing, but it's amazing.
To each their own.
Of course more people are jumping on the bandwagon as this thing gets closer to becoming true. That happens all the time.
Come on, how many Green Bay Packer fans did you see at work or on Facebook the day after the SuperBowl. But the same people said nothing to you about their passionate following of the same team Friday before you left work or at any point leading up to the game on FB.
People, especially those on radio, will say things just for the sake of being heard. Sometimes they don't actually agree with what they're saying but they say it for the sake of saying it.
I'm in the music biz. We all have our likes, but tell me once where you heard a radio announcer say, "Damn, that was the worst song ever. Why does this station even play it." but instead you get "Hey, here's another Nickelback song again we only played 30 minutes ago, but maybe you missed it, so we'll play it again because they're coming to town".
Hey, I've definately gone way off topic with my post but just putting it out there.

speaking of casual fans not keeping up to up to date things.. this site should be advertised in the freepress for more people to sign up. No need for that. The people that want to find the site will. The time is coming soon enough, there really is not a need to push the website out there. Plus the cost of doing it would probably make it illogical and not feasible.

Meh. It's not like Power 97 caters to the cognoscenti and Winnipeg's movers and shakers. So maybe some of the guys working on the warehouse dock who listen to Wheeler might think the NHL returning is a joke...big deal...

At one point in time radio hosts were hired based on their knowledge of current events and in most cases knowledge of music.
Now radio stations hire people who are good at talking random crap and although radio is still a good way to get the word out (I assume when the Jets come back the average Winnipegger will hear it on the radio or TV first.) it's barley relevant anymore..... People aren't put on the radio because of their knowledge and insight.
These people are loosely connected and informed with what's going on in our "main stream" community.... they find out what the flavor of the week is and go on about it to fill time, often missing the point.
These days Radio hosts don't know anything about anything, any more then the average person listening to the radio station, but because of the way things used to be people tend to hold radio hosts to a higher standard.
Scott Taylor is a good example of this..... Lots of people take what he says into consideration because hes a all-mighty radio host, but we all know he doesn't know his foot from his butt 90% of the time he opens his mouth.
Don't worry about Wheeler.... he is paid to blab on about nothing in between commercials... that's his job.

The bottom line is it's easier to say "ain't going to happen" and then flip flop because the euphoria helps cover your Go Jets Go. Then you just jump on the bandwagon with a flimsy that's what i said but circumstances arose..... etc. People forgive you in those circumstances. If you have cajones and put them on the line it's a lot harder to dial it back if things don't turn out. A failure would have occurred with no positive outcome i.e. nothing to cover your azz, no euphoria, it's just you alone holding your....... Nothing to quell people's anger, "the told you so" crowd jumps on you, the ridicule starts etc etc... When you consider that it's just a lot easier being a pussie. Welcome to Chorus Radio. Modify: I can't believe it I'm usually carefull but i got "Go Jets Go'd" using a word I hear a hundred times a week on network T.V. A little overboard with the sensor settings IMO. Sheesh!

I don't know if I had always believed the Jets would come back but from the day the MTS Centre opened I often would do revenue projection and I would read any sports business related articles.
One day I was driving to work and Wheeler was making fun of a new website called Manitoba Mythbusters and he said it is just another geek sitting in his parents basement making a website that means nothing, just like the Jetsowner site. I didn't know that this site existed. As soon as I arrived at work I checked out both sites and signed up for this one a short while after.
So yes, I think with Wheeler it has been more than a joke, if I were DF I would be insulted... but on the other hand I would have had a much harder time getting ROTJ info if I would not have heard him mention the site on the radio.

i guess opinions are like a$$holes...... everyone has one but some peoples are bigger and louder then others! i guess its ok to like or dislike something, either way, i have always had a feeling that NHL hockey will return to Winnipeg one day! and i'm not about to let someone opinion stand in my way of enjoying the eventual return of NHL hockey here!

Just got this now. Too funny.
My message to Power 97 is that they are waaaaay too late jumping on the bandwagon. Once something has become a (near) sure thing, it is usually too late to flip flop to the "pro" stance. My condolences to them.
And here's to hoping they were indeed joking about me pretending to OWN an NHL franchise. To that I am just plain speechless. I'll keep my contacts, they can keep theirs.
Haha, no worries guys and gals, it was funny to read this thread though. I wish I won the award, then I could go on the air and set many things straight, like I did with Lochlin (ugh) Cross years ago.
Bottom line, they did not "believe", until very recently anyways.
We did.
End of discussion.
Hey Dave or Philly...drop me a line, lets have some REAL fun on the radio. Anytime guys.
Cheers
