If you saw the video on the news page its clear to see that EVEN HE KNOWS THAT WE DESERVE NHL HOCKEY BACK HERE! he's not stupid that THAT tournament mostly all of Canada's support was from Winnipeg and YOU THINK PEOPLE from that area would sell out every game and make as much noise...
as to quote him...

Pete Karmanos (Hurricane owner) already wants out of the Raleigh area after suffering a financial bloodbath. Hartford Whaler fans will surely celebrate this bittersweeet victory.

What on earth is Chipman thinking though? In this city, Winnipeg Jets merchandise outsells "Minnesota" Moose merchandise by a huge margin, Go Jets Go chants at the Moose games. The only reason why anyone goes to those games is because of the new arena and they're even kicking themselves after they see the washrooms are very messed up as well as security won't let people from the upper deck come downstairs from what I've heard? Next season if the Jets aren't back, there will be a huge drop in season tickets to watch that sub par Minnesota throw away team of rejects. Oh yeah, did I say I hate the Moose?
I hope that David Asper and others aren't just bark with no bite as someone will have to buy out the Fake North Group because I'm betting after the lockout is finally done, Winnipeg will be approached and Chipman pretty much tell them off because perhaps he thinks his team of jokers is what Winnipeg wants to see, give your head a shake Chipman.
It's too bad there is a growing number of yuppies in this town too, they're happy with this garbage hockey that I can go to a local C.C. and see better quality hockey from the kids.
But hey, as long as people sell out the lower bowl, Chipman will think that we all like his "Minnesota" Moose. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I went to one Moose game, that was the last game at the arena and it wasn't for the Moose either. The next Moose game I go to will be either free (I'll boo the Moose all night in my Jets stuff) or when it's the last game (Either they fold or the Jets come back and force them out) and I'll be singing Nah nah nah nah, Hey hey, Goodbye. Oh yeah, I hate the Moose.

Amen, brother....
The Moose are a disgrace to this city. The CFL Bombers and Northern League Goldeyes are wonderful teams in this city, even though they are "minor league". However, "minor league" and "hockey" will never be accepted in the same sentance in Winnipeg.
The only reason people attend Moose games is Chipman has a monopoly on what kind of hockey is played at the MTS Centre. He will not allow a Winnipeg-based WHL team to play here. Lord knows if he would even give an NHL team a chance to call the MTS Centre "home".
I hate the Moose. I cannot tolerate them even when I have had several shots of whisky! They need to die a quick, painless death. I have lost all tolerance for this so-called "Manitoba" team. Let them die! Bring back REAL hockey to Winnipeg!!!

So if everyone agrees that chipman is a cancer, why haven't we begun the process of a full scale boycott? He has already stated publically that he "has no interest in the NHL" so why are we putting up with him and paying his salary? It's time to put him in his place and really pushing the cause as far as possible.

Here is the quote from the article:
“We didn’t [build the glittering MTS Centre] to jump up the queue for the NHL,” said Mark Chipman, the 44-year-old owner of the Manitoba Moose who endured the Jets’ tortured journey every step of the way. “But we didn’t rule it out either. I think the league knows we’re here. If anyone wants to come look under the hood, we’d talk to them.”
AND “I’m not actively pursuing [the NHL],” said Chipman. “But I’m interested to see the extent to which they get it fixed.”
Sounds like carefully chosen words to me. Protecting his current business interests but open to new ones!

Wrong. It is a desperate man who has succeeded in effectively taking our city off of the market for an NHL team. Nobody is going to contact a man who owns an arena who says he isn't interested. Nobody who says "we aren't interested at this time" EVER gets a team. Wipe the stars out of your eyes, chipman is against the NHL returning to Winnipeg. He lied to Glen Murray and locked the WHL out, it is safe to assume he did the same thing with the WJT bid as it eriously died a quick death last year and he was nowhere to be found during any of it and of course his infamous statement that he wouldn't stand in the way of the NHL. Funny how someone who said they wouldn't be a roadblock now "isn't interested". You chipman appologists really need to take a long look at this guy's track record of lying, abusing power he never earned and his arrogance towards Winnipeg as a community and it's sports fans. It is not a pretty sight but it is the truth of who mark chipman really is.

I have read and re-read the article below and have yet to see where Chipman has said is is "not interested in the NHL."
His comments are consistent with all his other quoted comments over the past year or two.
You seem to want to stir up a controversy, right now, over something that has yet to be shown to be a problem.
I guess you are entitled to your opinion regarding this but it gets a little tiring reading your made up quotes and speculation all the time.

WINNIPEG Things were so much different when the NHL ripped the heart out of this city nine years ago. Then, there wasn’t a new 15,015-seat arena in Winnipeg, complete with all the modern conveniences. Then, the NHL wasn’t trying to ram a $31-million salary cap down the NHLPA’s throat. Then, there weren’t half a dozen NHL franchises on life support. No, when the NHL left Winnipeg in the spring of ’96 the belief was it had simply outgrown this frigid outpost on the Canadian prairie. It hurt like hell at the time. To a certain extent, the city still isn’t over it. But love is also a tricky thing — just ask Jennifer Lopez — and if Gary Bettman ever showed a bit of interest in Winnipeg again, they’d forget all that pain in a hurry. Maybe they wouldn’t fall back into the NHL’s arms immediately. But, at the very least, they’d be willing to start dating again. If anyone wants to come look under the hood, we’d talk to them.” But they’re not going to give their heart away as easily this time. The notion of the NHL returning to Winnipeg, of course, is wildly fanciful but there’s also been enough change in the league’s and the city’s landscape to at least raise the question: What if? What if the NHL returns with a $31-million hard cap? What if franchises in Nashville, Atlanta, Phoenix, etc., etc., don’t survive this lockout? What if the big money in Winnipeg decides the NHL isn’t a bad idea after all? At this point, they’re just questions. But the point is you can ask them without sounding like a complete idiot and that hasn’t always been the case in Winnipeg. “I’m not actively pursuing [the NHL],” said Chipman. “But I’m interested to see the extent to which they get it fixed.” A decade ago he was also interested. The problem was the NHL wasn’t very interested in Winnipeg. Its rink was hopelessly out of date. Several well-intentioned but underfunded local initiatives failed to deliver a new one. The city’s fans believed their irrational passion for the game was enough to sustain the Jets. But it wasn’t. In the last year of their existence, under admittedly difficult circumstances, the Jets’ payroll was $17 million US, the average ticket price was $26 and they lost $25 million. Now, the market, to borrow a phrase currently in vogue, is what it is. Winnipeg’s population is about 700,000. The corporate base is limited. There is an intensely rabid fan base but there’s a question about its ability to pay NHL prices. Yet, the dream persists. The new MTS Centre is the city’s centrepiece and it is an NHLcalibre building. The 50 luxury boxes were leased to some 90 local businesses. The AHL Moose, who weren’t exactly embraced by Winnipeggers when they replaced the Jets, now boast 5,500 season tickets and average just under 9,000 fans per game. True, it might be missing a couple of thousand seats for the NHL’s liking but it’s as if Winnipeg is saying, this is what we’ve got. If it’s enough for your league, fine. If it’s not, that’s fine, too. “Clearly, a large number of hockey fans are following what’s going on now and I’m one of them,” said Chipman. “We’d need some help. Thirty-one million doesn’t work for a lot of markets. I’m not sure it works for Edmonton. “But the question is, is this a better hockey market than some of the existing ones in the NHL and the answer is, absolutely.” Actually, hockey was never the question. And maybe one day that’s all that will matter. ewilles@png.canwest.com

I guess it depends on how you look at it.
If I were a buisness man I most likely wouldn't be actively pursuing the NHL in the state that it is in right now. It's hard for most teams to stay out of the RED.
I havn't followed Chipman too much, But I'm down right pissed off that the WHL isn't in this city cause of TRUE NORTH
I'd rather watch Winnipeg vs. Bradon then WPG vs. most of the AHL teams. Young players that are giving it all they got, each and every shift, to just be drafted is much more exciting then a PITSTOP.
BUT I think, if Chipman did block a possible NHL return after a hopefully well crafted CBA, and the news of this got public.... good luck, that would be suicide

In case you haven't noticed with all the negative articles and BJOB's constant Jets-bashing, chipman controls the media here because he is a huge advertising account. Nobody would even find out locally if he did stop the NHL from coming here. What's worse, anyone who found out elsewhere would be accused of being liars even on this board as the chipman appologists refuse to see what is in front of their eyes.
No moose is good moose and the same goes for mark chipman and true north.

The Winnipeg Free Press and Winnipeg Sun would be on our side, do you see how much the "Minnesota" Moose get on their papers compared to how much the Jets do?
Typical day at both buildings. "Ok, who's going to the Moose game?"
"Send Joe, he didn't finish his report on time, make him suffer."
Winnipeg doesn't like the Moose, they like being in a new arena. Also, kids don't know the difference sometimes and hockey is hockey to them, although I've seen kids play better.
Did I mention yet that I really HATE the Moose ?
