As reported by Scott Taylor in The View from Winnipeg in yesterday's (Jan. 23rd) edition of the National Post, the Blue Bombers will (for sure this time), announce their results of their "feasibility study" on a new stadium within the next 4 weeks.
It's about time!!

It was supposed to be announced by the end of 2005 but for whatever reason is keeps getting pushed back.

Will the new stadium be indoors? I hope they included plans for a hockey rink so WPG can sell 30,000 seats a couple times a year...or at a stanley cup finals...only half serious here...

It might be only half serious... but if its indoors it is a thought for a few playoff games... but obviously depends on how much it would cost to set up...league approval... etc. The one thing is that the view may not be good as you may be fairly far away from the ice.

I am glad there are no Heritage Classic games this year, the more they happen the less of a novelty it is, I wouldn't be interested in watching a game played on a CFL football field, as Hatrick said, you would hardly see anything, and if it is an outdoor stadium I can hardly see the NHL giving an OK to play a playoff game there

They better not build an indoor football stadium. The game is ment to be played outdoors.

they want to build it indoor so they can attract events like car shows, motor X, and other conventions that are too big for the convention centre

the floor isn't big enough for car shows and motorX in the mts centre, motorX is always in domes like olympic staduim and the metro dome, but i don't know how profitable those would be in winnipeg, i guess that's why they did a year long study

Indoor doesn't necessarily mean "indoor"....perhaps a retractable dome would be a good idea? I Can't see Winnipeg affording/having a need for it but it sure would be nice. Anybody have any thoughts on what a "suitable" number of seats would be for a new stadium? Most people here seem to think 15,000 was too small for hockey....is 30,000 too small for football?

If they absolutely, positively have to build it indoors, then I propose that they build a dome (better if it's retractable) stadium with 34,000-36,000 permanent seats, and then have around 6,000 retractable seats on each endzone (like the retractable seats in the Metrodome), so that the capacity can be raised to 46,000-48,000 for Grey Cup games. The seats on each endzone can be retracted up for regular season Bombers games, concerts, Motorcross, trade shows, etc.
But I really would prefer if the stadium was retractable roof or outdoors.

i can't see the bombers affording a retractable roof even with canadinns. they would need huge help form all governments. A year ago when this came out they were talking about 30 000 seats with an ability to expand to 50 000 for Grey Cups

With all these delays, I'm starting to think the Bombers can't afford anything at all..........too bad, after the MTS Center it would be fantastic for this city to get a new Staidum.

They are just making sure that they get everything right. I'm sure we'll hear an announcement really soon.

So *if* they build a new stadium it should be built a the old Canada Packers site...of course it won't happen, but it should be considered. Instead of building it almost outside of Wpg. BTW it should have at least 40 - 50,000 permanent seats.
