I spoke with a very reliable source today, and the plan is to build the stadium in 5 years or so. I know that this will just be considered here say for everybody here, but I can't quote anybody or link anything (confidentiality) so please don't ask, very disappointing news though.

Why is it dissapointing news? It may take that long for them to get their financing in order, I am sure that the three levels of government participation will be minimal at best (as it should be)
Also, I heard that the plans now call for it to be built at the old Canada Packers site

Right now, there are no sites planned. There are no plans to build a stadium for at least 5 years, the old Canada Packers site will be long gone by then.

The Old Canada Packers site will be the new City of Winnipeg building I believe. If the plan to build a new Stadium in 5 years I hope it's built somewhere downtown.

no room downtown, they'd have to take out buildings and cut off roads. packers is the closest to downtown they can get, i believe. but at the packers site thers supposedly a strong smell of pork processing in the air form some plant. is that really what we want other teams remembering us for? the stench of dead pigs?

I hope it's built near the Red River Ex. Building it downtown would be a nightmare. Just ask anyone from Vancouver. A stadium downtown would be a traffic nightmare of congestion.

It should be built behind Coyotes Nite Club in the stretch of field along Bishop Grandin, it should also be a tiered stadium with 45000 permanent seats, with the top tier being curtained for regular season games which bring the lower main tier to around 30000, and that would mean it's a indoor venue! The access would be great off and onto Bishop with acceleration ramps.

these the fields your talking about. the entire lot is more than 2x the size of the current canad inns stadium lot. as for your idea of having a 45000 seat stadium, i can't see it being any higher that 40000 unless winnipeg scores some event like the commonwealth games, pan am, fifa, or an NFL team somehow. i agree it should be tiered. i think something like canwest global park would be good. i'm refering to having the concourse right above the seats and with a view of the game. that way the stadium would overcome the problem of no SRO seating, which might plague the MTSC. indoor would be awesome, a retractable roof enven more awesome, but i bet it will be just a strait up outdoor stadium

You finally post again. However, rather than apologize for running the Jetsowner site into the ground, you ramble on about the Bomber stadium. Go back to ourbombers.com. I don't want you here, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Agreed. I can see my condo in this picture and could walk to the games of course I won't be living here by the time it is built

Traffic-wise, anything would be an improvement from the St. James area. Bishop Grandin has its moments, but that would probably be a better spot than the Red River Ex grounds. There's actually people living in that area, so not everyone would have to drive.

The Bishop Grandin location would also be very close ( I think...) to the U of M campus which could help draw a ton of fans that live on campus there, and also some people that go to UofM could go to a game after school.
Actually nm.... scrap that idea as the Bombers play in summer and theres less people around UofM then other than those that opt to go to the summer term... but in September school resumes and the Bombers are still playing then... so it may have some effect.

I can see history repeating itself. It took the city almost 20 years to build a new arena, after the old one was being declared obsolete. I can see a new stadium starting construction around spring of 2014.

As it's "public" money....I think you're right J-Z, 2014 would be agood guess. The government will screw the pooch for as long as it takes to get a private business to build it. Then the Bombers will sign a 50 year lease agreement, keeping them in debt for another 100 years.

Thats a walk away from where i grew up....thats the sight of an old sugar beet factory.....it smelled so bad to me in the early winter time (alot of people liked the smell).....
