The Blue Note.......moved west down Portage near Arlington for a couple of years, but just never made it. Many late nights in there, we called it the "Blue Joint" for many reasons.

LOL@ the "Blue Joint". My musician friends used to play there in the late 90's. When they were done, it was a beer, a bite to eat, and a "fattie" around the main entrance. Ahhhh I miss the Blue Note!

There used to be a video arcade on Portage in front of the Free Press building, I think it was called Long John Silvers and a porn theatre right next door

Loblaws and Dominions I think pretty much packed up and headed back east and thus Westfair foods, the second class to Loblaws started the Extra Foods and SuperValu food and drug chain...but SuperValu changed its name to Superstore...IF you go to the Kenaston Superstore you can still see the "SuperValu" logo still cemented on the Wall.
Anyone remember the Arcade Joints at Garden City and Polo Park..the polo park one had those game stations where you can play a game for an hour and they had big arcades there.
JCPenny I remember used to be at Polo Park and same with the penny Fountain!
McDonalds USED to have big eateries in the city..the St.James one was HUGE but they downgrated it to crap..the McPhillips one was HUGE i had my 6th bday party downstairs at mcdonalds and I had their cheap bunk cake but they tore it down and made some garbage palace they call a building.
Swiss Chalet...hardly ate there...K Mart...hardly shopped their either...

How about Times, The Marble Club and what did Palaminos used to be called Times SUCKED! It took over from the Aztec in 1995, and was in a horrible location to begin with. Face it, every upscale bar in Winnipeg, unless located in the heart of the exchange, is going to fail. Especially if it's on Portage. There is no bar even close to the old Times or Avenue, unless you want to go to some dump like the Windsor or the bars on Fort Street....

I agree with that, but you would think with the MTS Center now that might be a great place for a sports bar (if the rent or purchase was reasonable and the Jets come back). I think United Tavern will be very successful if/when it ever opens, (supposed to be this month except for the patio upstairs)

Before it was the "Palamino" it was "Blue Jeans"... or the old BCW's on portage a few blocks west of polo. it's still there as something else but was a cool neighborhood kick-back for a few place. remember the old "Bumpers" or before that it was "The Black Knight" now it's called "Strip & Rip". Clever handle.

Wendys to my knowledge are still in the same big bulky buildings for years..the polo park eatery is still up and it sure reminds me of the old McDonalds on St.James.
I dont know if anyone from the Maples, Meadows West or Stanley Knowles area remember this store but do you guys remember the "Wow Store" it was located on the corner of Inkster and Mandalay.
