All fear the power that is BELARUS!
Do we have some kinda bye to the semi finals or something? One of the cats I was working with mentioned that we may have a bye from the Sweden/Finland game, can anyone fill me in?

Canada win or tie against Finland = Canada 1st in pool and a bye.
Canada lost to Finland = Finland first and no bye for Canada.

Two words on that one : Andrei Kastitsyn. This guy is gonna help Montreal sooooo much.. If you think his game is good on TV just imagine being there! He makes everyone on the ice better! On a side note, Canada should have no problem with the Fins today... 24 goals for 4 against.... hmmm you do the math! ;D

On an interesting sidenote, Wayne Gretzky's Grandparents came from Belarus. So technically, gretzky is ethnically Belorussian!

Yup, I saw the game. God, what a stinker... Then they lost to the Czech Republic, too? My God.
The morale has sunk like a rock the last few days amongst the American hockey fan community. I'm sure you guys are thrilled the Canadian squad dominated preliminary round play. Great job by your boys so far.
But what really counts is from this point on. Lose and you go home. That simple. That's what faces the American team as does the Canadian team. I expect Canada to win the tournament as much as I'm pulling for the United States, of course.
We shall see. Thankfully we have something to temporarily watch on television during the NHL lockout.

I saw the collapse against belarus and heard about the loss to the czechs. Team USA sure is lucky they barely beat Russia in their opener or else their record would have been 1-3.

Absolutely, Herman. And, the United States would've been all the more humilated by not even making the playoff round to defend their gold medal on their own soil.
It should been an interesting semifinal round. Canada all poised, focused and ready to get back to the championship game. Fresh off the momentum of crushing Sweden last night to get back on track, hopefully the Americans can do the same.

Canada sure is a great team, Luke.
They were so dominant in the round robin portion of the tournament, it's scary.
As I said before, it won't shock me if they win the 2005 World Juniors title and do so easily.

The USA collapse is complete. They lost against Russia 7-2. I read on TSN that Russia scored two empty net goals by Ovechkin and Malkin. Both their second goals of the game. They both taunted the USA players and fans after they scored. I remember when Kovalchuck scored an empty net goal on Canada and did a little hot dogging of his own. That shows no class at all. Hopefully Phaneuf puts Ovechkin in his place. I wonder if Alexander "Pansy" Ovechkin will dive again.
Canada vs. Russia Tuesday 7:30 REVENGE IS SWEET

These kids should've known better than to taunt opposing players during games, you're right Herman. There needs to be a strong emphasis of sportsmanship on the part of the players. The coaching staffs of teams need to stress this to these kids that unsportsmanlike conduct won't be tolerated.
As I mentioned in the game thread I created for Tuesday night title game, I wish Canada all the best!

Thanks for the well wishes. I feel bad that USA didn't make it to the finals. What happened to Montoya? He went from the top goalie in last year's tournament to possibly the worst goalie in this year's tournament. It looks like he cost the team a chance at a repeat.

Al Montoya just didn't seem to be on top of his game for one reason or another. It appeared in the last few games, he just wasn't completely ready in the early going. It was frustrating to see him allow goals within the first shot or two he'd face in each case.
I wouldn't say he was the worst goalie either. Honestly, the American defensemen played poorly since the second game of the tournament. They've gotten lucky in scoring in bunches in their wins. Russia made the adjustments they needed from the first meeting and shut down the big guns, including Phil Kessel.
I believe Montoya will bounce back. This bump in the road during his development will only help him on his road to the NHL. Every great goaltender needs to face adversity and now this was that time. I'll be concerned if he doesn't perform for the rest of this season at the University of Michigan.
