Boy oh boy. How many times have we seen THAT on the board now? Facts are facts.. with 15,000 seats they will not even be in the top 22 in league attendance. But then again look who I am replying to.. As I have said you think you are the greatest thing going when you are nothing but a loser. For the record your opinion is not the only one that counts. WHO ARE YOU.... respect Blackie he pretty much is this campaign. Look at the amount of users online at once b4 he came to after he came. i admit it i have rebeled against him before (minor rebelion but hey) but he definatly helps the campaign but oh wait im berzerkland and i dont like this guy. WHO CARES

Pittsburgh has had terrible attendace. And football, baseketball, baseball and College sports will always, always, always "overshadow" hockey there. Good NHL city? Puh-lease. NONE OF YOU (as I expected) have given me a reason why they're a "good NHL city". They packed the airport when they won the Stanley Cup? Just because hockey is not #1 does not mean that it is not a good market. In New York I am sure the Yankees, Giants(I think), and Knicks all get more press than the Rangers.

Actually in New York the Yanx come first above all else, then it's the Giants, Jets and depending on who is doing better, the Rangers or the Knicks and then the Mets. New York hockey fans do take their hockey seriously though. Any fanbase that demands coaches' heads during games, (the "FIRE SATHER" chants of a year or two ago for example,) are not a characteristic of a fanbase that doesn't care.
New York is simply a sports town, not unlike Philadelphia or Denver.

I am sure Darren does not want a guy who tears into people who either watch the Moose or have a different opinion then him. I have no respect for him what so ever. I think he is a joke.

i know the pain the pens' fans will go through if they lose their team, and they definitely don't deserve it.
it just seems pretty obvious to me that they will be moving. afterall, lemieux announced he was selling the team before he won the crosby sweepstakes, and then we he got crosby, decided to keep the team as he thought with crosby there was no way the pens wouldn't get an arena.
well, lo and behold, money talks and BS walks ... since it's obvious the governor will award the slots licence to those who got him elected, and that's not isle of capri ... and the team is now for sale again.
the chance of a new arena in pittsburgh is most definitely lower than 25%. lemieux is selling now to beat other franchises to the best sale price. he knows the panthers, hurricanes and thrashers will be on the block very shortly, and is making the move now due to his consultants' best advice for the highest return.

Buddy....you're describing EVERY American market. Do you think Detroit...Hockeytown (I hate that they gave themselves that title)...cares more about the Red Wings than they do the Lions? Nope. It's all about the Lions...and they have championship NHL and NBA teams!...and the Lions stink! But they still care more about them than any other team. The majority of American markets value NFL, NCAA, MLB, NBA, Nascar, NHL....and in that order. Given that fact...Pittsburgh still has drawn relatively good attendance considering the teams they have had recently. It's more than you would expect from a lot of other US markets.

Yeah me too.
But still... it's not a GREAT NHL city. And no one has any reason to think so.
If they didn't have Crosby this year, they'd have half the crowds they're getting.
Granted the arena is lousy too, from what I hear.

I'd bet that Crosby is responsible for an extra 4000+ fans in the seats every game...without him, they wouldn't have sold even close to the same number of season tickets. As soon as the lottery was over, people were trying to get season tickets and prior to the lottery they could've cared less.

Crosby is partly responsible for the team drawing as it has... there were news articles about how many signed up for season tickets right after Crosby was drafted.
I dont think we have any right to bash Pittsburgh though, and I honestly mean none at all... all this situation reminds me of is what we went through in 1995.
PIttsburgh needs a new arena, has not bad attendance... but they have a terrible arena and who knows how good the sightlines are.
The only way to judge how good a market Pittsburgh is, is to build them a new arena, and then if they dont draw while having Crosby... eep!

At the start of the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins estimated a $7 Million loss if a) they make it through two playoff rounds and b) sell out every game at the Igloo/Mellon Arena (16,232). Right now, playoff hopes are receding and average attendance is 95.7% of capacity. Marc-Andre Fleury is staying with the Penguins after Palffy retired.
MTS Centre can hold up to 15,000 so the next Jets will need to sell out every night.
The team that will move to Winnipeg will not likely be the Penguins because there are still a couple of suckers who are willing to overpay for a franchise, mainly in KC, Houston (Les Alexander ... he's back!) and Las Vegas (who?). Forget about Portland, Oregon because Paul Allen lost interest after trying for the Penguins in 1999 and the Coyotes in 2001. A year ago, Allen gave up the Rose Garden Arena, which is now owned by a consortium of bond holders. I figure that three teams will relocate within the US before 2-3 teams flee for Canada and 2-4 teams shut down.
For the guy pointing to taxes in Canada, Manitoba in particular, I've had a couple of transfer swings through Chicago, Illinois and Portland, Oregon and the reality today is that in the US, their high tax, high cost of living blue states are in our taxation zone. Local taxes have skyrocketed due to both a housing bubble and higher mill rates. Portland locals voted a county income tax on themselves so that school doesn't close early in mid-May (Oregon is notorious for that, running out of money). The US is running deficits at local, state and federal levels and the national debt is about to hit $8.1 Trillion (while Canada's is dropping towards $500 Billion ... consider the 10:1 population difference). Ten years ago, Canada had nearly $1 Trillion in debt while the US was at $5 Trillion.
Some stuff is still cheaper in the States but that has narrowed greatly versus Canada. The high cost of rent or mortgages offsets that, in the blue states it costs more to live than most of Canada. Visitors from Vancouver, BC have been shocked at how expensive the housing in Portland has become (and that's one of the worse economies in the US at the moment).
