www.houstonhockey.net/To: Houston Hockey Fans Bring back pro hockey to Houston! We all know about markets like Quebec, Winnipeg and Hartford who are always asking for a team, but why is Houston dismissed? All those teams were WHA teams and so were the Houston Aeros. The Aeros were just as successful if not more successful than these other teams, and all those cities had a chance in the NHL while we didn't! The NHL allowed four teams from the WHA to enter the league in 79 while dissmissing the aeros, which was the first team trying to merge with the NHL, in 78. We have a much larger population and a better tv market. If Dallas can be viable in the NHL than Houston can most certainly be viable and even rivals with Dallas which is a good thing. The NHL will never become viable in a small southern market like nashville even if their team is winning. However, Houston would support a winning team anytime of the week. Bring the NHL to Houston because we aren't a minor league city! Sincerely, The Undersigned

I have been a casual viewer of the home site Houston Hockey for years and I have to say, it is the most comprehensive website on the net that documents Houston's hockey history. I always believed that Houston deserved a team if any were moving to Texas because of how well supported the original Aeros were. (Back when they were saying that the North Stars were moving to Texas but nobody knew where yet.)
The Houston Apollos of 1979-81 really mirror the atmosphere for the moose in Winnipeg having to be the errand boy to a former Big League rival. I won't pass judgement on Houston for not supporting second rate hockey after getting burned out of their major league team.
All in all a good site.

There is no question the Houston area deserves a NHL team. The owners of the WHA Aeros appearantly 'jumped the gun', and demanded to be absorbed into the NHL for the 78-79 season, from what I understand. When the NHL would not allow them to, the owners folded the team.
Besides Winnipeg, Houston is the most feasible place to put a NHL team. Quebec, Hamilton, and Hartford would support the NHL, but I cannot see this occuring in these markets anytime soon. Kansas City, Las Vegas, and whoever else would be disasterous.

I can't believe what I'm hearing from you guys. Houston doesn't deserve an NHL team!
"Because they had a WHA team they deserve an NHL team"
"Because they're a big city they deserve a team"
"Because they have a GORGEOUS new arena they deserve a team"
Hey! Here's a question. That women's EXHIBITION hockey game that drew 12,700 to the MTS Centre on January 1st... how many people do you think would've showed up to it if it were in HOUSTON?
I say 1,300 - and I think I'm being very generous.

Common sense says that Houston is a viable NHL market. Besides, it is not only ONE southern belt team that is going to move sometime soon...so relax.

NONE OF YOU have given me 1 good reason why Houston would make a great NHL city. Great attendance when Dallas plays them at the Toyota Center? well in THAT case, give them a team!!

1. How many kids in Houston, Texas dream of winning the Stanley Cup?
2. How many outdoor hockey rinks in Houston?
3. Is the NHL on the front page of the Houston newspaper often?
4. It never snows in Houston
5. Winnipeg has 3 times the number of hockey fans Houston does
Houston's top hockey team gets, what, 3,000 a game? We get twice that and our top hockey team is the farm team of a former hated rival!!

Jason, for once I completely agree.
If we aren't moving teams to cities where hockey is a SURE THING than it is counter-intuitive to restoring the league's glory. We need to dig back into the roots before we try more "Sun Belt Experiments." Minnesota was a glorious step, but the trend needs to continue!
And I don't care what kind of minor league hockey history any city has, show me people who, like Jason said, DREAM of lacing up on a hockey team, who play the game, and who would watch a football game after a hockey game (mid-season!). I want the NHL to be there.
I wish any team who wants the NHL all the luck, but I'm not going to back anything but a "sure thing" for the game, and that sure thing is Winnipeg. Right now.

What do you mean "for once" you agree...? What have you disagreed with me about in the past?
Be specific, and give examples.

Usually when you bust out the numbered lists of things it's going to be over the top and probably about the Moose. I agree that once you are riled up about something that I agree with.

That site is so bad I almost barfed trying to read any of it. LOL. Good call Darren, I was about to say the same thing myself. I looked at it, tried to read it, but its not worth my time if the author isn't going to even design the site properly.

Common sense says that Houston is a viable NHL market. Besides, it is not only ONE southern belt team that is going to move sometime soon...so relax. Hockey works in Texas. I don't have a logical explanation why it's popular in the 'Lone Star' state, but the fact is hockey will almost certainly work in Houston. On the other hand, Miami, Nashville, Carolina, Anaheim, and Atlanta will never embrace the NHL.

It hurt my eyes looking at that.
They have the WHA "When Howe Arrived" wasn't he around 42 when he played for the Aeros

Actually he was 45 but he scored over 100 points in 1973-74 and won the WHA's MVP award that year. To think that people were praising Mesiser's meger point totals at the end of his line when Gordie was scoring more than double at a much older age.
