Another thing to note about Ulf and Anders' time with the Rangers is 2 things:
1. The Rangers, coached by Fred Shero played the trap almost exclusively, which hinders an offensive player's ability to score points with the regularity that Ulf and Anders did in Winnipeg because of their lack of quality chances.
2. Ulf never played a full season as a Ranger due to all of the injuries he had after 1978.

That Jets team mopped the floor with the Soviet National Team, possibly the greatest team ever assembled anywhere in hockey history. Name one NHL team that did that. Nuff said. Great point good to see that your not all negative! No other Club team in history, including all N.H.L teams, or European club teams beat the Soviets. To be honest I'm too young to remember The W.H.A days but I'm sure that you put any W.H.A team up against any dilluted N.H.L team of today and the W.H.A team would win.

The Flyers beat the Central Red Army club team, NOT the National team. In fact only about half the National team played for Red Army at that time.
The Flyers beat a paper champion whereas the Jets beat the real thing. The Bullies would have been curbstomped by the team the Jets beat.

I'm amazed at your knowledge of hockey, especially the history of the NHL. I didn't know much about the 70's (too young to remember the WHA), but you should post more about the WHA years, BC!

I did post a good entry about Gerry Wilson, (Cary's dad,) and his contributions to the Jets WHA dynasty a while back and do post WHA stuff from time to time.
There are a lot of good bootleg WHA vids on the market where fans can see for themselves what quality hockey the league really had. If the Jets go into the NHL before the 1977-78 season they destroy everyone and I mean EVERYONE, no questions asked. It is very telling that the so-called "toughest team of all time", the 1977-78 Bruins declined a challenge from the Jets after the Habs said no for the second time. It just goes to show that many of the teams in the NHL were all talk and were just living on prestige. The Canadiens were definately as great as their record shows but many pundits who have the NHL logo on their a$$ refuse to aknowledge that no other team in the NHL belonged in the same league as the Habs or the Jets. Which makes it fitting that the Jets weren't in the same leagues as those teams.

I remember phoning CKY-TV, to inquire about availability of the tapes/videos of the Jets WHA days. However, I never heard back from them. That was in the early 90's...

CKY never had the rights to Jet games during the WHA years. It was all KCND/CKND back then. (Hosted by Cactus Jack and Andy Arnott in his swinging leather leisuresuits, yeah baby!) Finding entire Jet games is next to impossible but clip compilations are not hard to find. Jeff Dooley has most if not all available WHA footage and is always happy to trade with other fans. However, Ebay is also a good place to find the few gems he doesn't have.
Joe Daley has the last WHA game for sale as well as the 1977 WHA All-Star Game but they are expensive through him and are commons among tape traders. Go through a tape trader as the quality will be the same and the price will be far lower.

He did, as did Gary Green. What happened to Peter Young? i just remember he had an enormous head (physically)!

Gary Green did color for the NHL Jets, not the WHA Jets. If I'm not mistaken, Gary was still coaching during the WHA years. (He was the youngest NHL coach ever but the years he coached the Caps escape me.)

Gary Green was good at color commentary at Jets games for CKY-TV. He was a very likeable personality to him. I remember him having some sort of 30 minute TV show on TSN in the early 90's that promoted fair play. Perhaps the most infamous moment for Gary Green came when Don Cherry challenged him to a fistfight at a local charity event (to which Green accepted), after a heated argument. However, it was broken up, as the 2 men were headed for the door. I think it happened around 92' if I am not mistaken...

And not a player/coach either. (Usually when young guys coach teams they are part time or even full time players as well.) Bill Russel was 30 when he was player/coach of the Celtics and he is the youngest coach I can think of that is even close to Green. Not many people wanted the Capitals job at the time so sometimes giving a young guy a shot is a good thing.
Bud Grant was 29 when he took the reigns of the Bombers and that turned out okay didn't it?
