Dear Darren,
I can still recall when I first found this site. it was 7 years ago. I was impressed that I was not the only one who held up hop that the Jets were coming back. In fact, when I joined the Jetsowner message forum over six years ago, I was really excited. finally I could chat with people who believed the Jets would return.
I stood by you thick and thin while others mocked you as a dreamer and a loon. We all did. It was a community of belivers. We each contributed our part for the dream that the Jets would one day return.
Unfortunately, you changed. When the media spotlight was upon you, the forum became the "Darren Ford Show." You took credit for everything, while throwing your loyal followers under the bus. It became clear to me and many others that you had turned into a self absorbed Go Jets Go, who only was in it for himself.
Now the joke is on you. The Winnipeg Free Press forum is an epic fail. You could have left Jetsowner open to the people who wanted to turn it into the unofficial NHL Jets forum. There were offers, even people ready to buy the domain off you. Instead you acted like a first class jackass.
I feel like an idiot because at one time I defended you unconditionally. However, i have seen your true colours. You were only in it for yourself. Your vague and convoluted predictions about the Jets made me realize you were a phony.
It's over, Darren. Your WFP forum is an epic fail. You sold us loyal Jetsowner followers all out. I hope you are satisfied.

JohnK has already admitted that the initial forum setup was a failure and is moving to a new vendor which will be better. Give it a chance. As for selling out lol anything he has gained out of this he deserves.
Harsh and i think uncalled for! I say close the forum now we dont need anymore negative crap like this!

Ouch. Tell us what you really think.
I for one have met Mr Ford and spent the weekend with him at the draft and I saw a stand up individual who didn't want the spotlight on him at all times. It just followed him. Not his fault. He is a class act and I'm glad to have met him. Atleast he has the balls to stand up for what he believed and allowed us other believers a place to congregate and share our same hope. I find it humorous that even in the last days of jetsowner.com people still come on to THIS board to bash everything DF. Ironic isn't it?

Sorry but I am none of the things that this claims and this person has never met me. What a horrible way to be treated at the end of this. I have prided myself on making sure that this was NEVER about me and always about US. I have turned down sponsorship at every turn. I have spent hundreds of hours fighting for YOUR dream while YOU sat around and played video games...and all on my own time and eating into family life and job obligations.

why do you respond Darren? I do think you want a hero cookie sometimes, but meh you did start a pretty awesome forum. Unfortunately that's all you did, sometimes you make it sound like you were directly responsible... that I do not understand

This is a fan forum, no one was forced to join and post here!! Why all the attacks against df? I've only been here for a year, but I don't recall anyone on here taking credit for ROTJ, especially df! Darren put time, heart, and soul into this board so us believers had a place to chat together and share rumors and stuff. None of us here was responsible for the Jets coming back, we're just fans... some with inside info, and some not. I completely agree with the decision to lock down the board and move on. The Jets are back guys, find a new board to chat on (there are lots to choose from) and let this one go. This was a "return of the jets" board anyways. Darren, good for you for sounding off to the trolls here. Congrats on sticking your neck and name out there and for realizing the goal of our campaign. While we have never met, I'm sure you are the stand up guy in person as you are on the forum. And another thank you to the regular posters here for keeping us in the loop and for the chats and laughs, especially that simpsons thread. This will be my last post here, but I'll be on the other boards. Take care all! |

CravenMoorhead, I agree with a lot of what you said in your post but you didn't need to resort to name calling to make your point.
I think this site was started with good intentions, and I applaud DF for putting his name out there. However, I think the media spotlight and a flock of posters who pretty much worshipped him got to his head. I really don't want to resort to making a long grocery list of examples to back up my point so I won't. All I'll say is, all the people I know "in the real world" who belonged to this site all agree that he became pretty full of himself. And it was quite a turn off. The thing is, I'll bet there's a lot of people who would become the same way if put into that same situation.
I guess in the end it was his board and he could act any way he wanted. People could leave if they wanted to. I looked at the site as a great place to get news on the return of the Jets, and if there was an ego trip going on, whatever, it was just a minor annoyance I ignored.
As for the Free Press site, I won't be a part of it. The only reason John K ever came here was to promote the newspaper he works for. Same for his return of the Jets FAQ and his online chats during Glendale council meetings. And this new forum, and bringing DF on board, is not any different... just promotion for a newspaper in a dying industry.
I like what I see in a couple of the new forums. Friendly mods who aren't on power trips and admins who freely mingle with other posters just like regular joes.
So far.

Sounds like someone has an axe to grind or sheer jealousy -- not quite sure; I'm not sure which one. It's a classless & disrespectful post. I just don't understand the negativity and the hate behind it. Karma's a Go Jets Go & I have a feeling this negativity you spew will come back to you 10 fold.
DF: Thx for all your hard work here @ ROTJ & best of luck w/ the WFP & any other future ventures you may be involved in. Congrats on seeing your mission through to the end!

Everyone was pretty happy with Darren and the forum for years before the announcement....?
Some of you guys have the nerve to be talking about THROWING PEOPLE UNDER THE BUS?!?!? You guys are throwing Darren under the bus!!
He has, bar none, done more for the Return of the Jets campaign than any other fan.
No, he did not buy the team. But he did everything a regular fan could... short of dishing out 180 millon. He started a forum, a website (both of which he tirelessly researched, painstakingly put together, updated and maintained), united all the Jets fans out there from Winnipeg and beyond, and spearheaded the push to get the team back via the FANS through rallies and TV interviews.
The guy has done plenty and.. ya know what.. he deserves the few pats on the back he gets. He deserves every last one of them in fact. He worked hard and was a true believer and a true fan.
You guys make me sick.
Darren, you did a fantastic job and I really hope you never forget that.

I've known Darren for almost 20 years and he's still the same guy he was then, I commend him for his passion for the jets and the return of the nhl back to winnipeg. A lot of us were bitter when we lost our team and he started something that gave us an avenue to release some of that bitterness and look where we are today.....So leave the guy alone, the only reason your bashing is of pure jealousy that you didn't start a website prior to him, that's no reason to be a complete douche bag!!
Darren, I'll see u at the games and keep your head up buddy and take what these Go Jets Go clowns say for what it truly is ....complete jealousy!
