Why is anyone at this point worried about who is deserving of "credit" , "attention" and folk-heroism? Seems like a ridiculous time to be taking umbrage with anyone related directly or indirectly with the return of NHL hockey to Winnipeg. The Jets are back -- that still blows me away. I'm sure that Darren Ford fully realizes that, in the grand scheme of things, starting a web site and calling it "Jets Owner" really had very little to do with Mark Chipman and David Thompson deciding to invest millions of dollars and cultivating the necessary NHL relationships that resulted in successfully garnering a franchise. What Darren did accomplish, it seems to me, was to galvanize a community of equally passionate Winnipeg NHL fans and provide them a forum within which to share their dreams and passion. This, in turn, probably demonstrated to Chipman et al that massive interest in NHL hockey was at a fever pitch in this town.

I admire and respect the fact that Darren put a lot of work into this site with a genuine cause. I used to do an official website for an well known artist and know the b.s that comes day in, day out with keeping up a site: People wanting you to deliever a msg to someone, people wanting to get close to you because you have an in with someone they admire and others wanting to know the latest gossip..... only between you and them, of course.
What I don't admire is how Darren stamped his name all over everything. The nail in the coffin for me was his signature on the 'Mission Accomplished' banner and tshirts, as if he was solely responsible for us getting a team back. In my humble opinion, it was somewhat of a Go Jets Go move and I've talked to quite a few people who have similar views. Actually, someone working at the Sport Chek at Polo Park said almost the exact same thing to me this past week and unfortunately, I couldn't disagree.
Make no mistake, Winnipeg would've had a team with or without Darren's efforts. However, I do applaud him and his great efforts all these years. They haven't gone unnoticed.
I've been in a similar position in the past, where people are basically lining up at your feet, just begging for some insiders information, and after a while it DOES blow your ego up a bit. You end up teasing the Go Jets Go out of people... dropping a little info here and there, like some kind of cryptic code. Sometimes, someone in such a position has to take a step back and plant their feet firmly into what is reality.
I'm sure after this is all officially done, Darren will realise this... perhaps a year or two by now. A lot of good, genuine effort was put into this project by noneother than himself, but again, unfortunately ones ego came out shining in the end.

Who cares about Darren Ford. It's a web site and that's all. It got my season tickets today and it not because of Ford. Thank you Mr Chipman and Thompson. Well without Darren Ford, you wouldn't be able to post your crap on here now would you mr.douche?

I'm not afraid to say that I too thought the signature on the signed shirts was perhaps a misstep. I would have bought a Mission Accomplished shirt in a heartbeat were it not for that.
Otherwise, jetsowner.com has been a great place for news of the dream of the Jets' return! It's been a roller coaster ride for me, so I can only imagine the highs and lows Mr. Ford must have experienced during all his hard work!

Sorry but I am none of the things that this claims and this person has never met me. What a horrible way to be treated at the end of this. I have prided myself on making sure that this was NEVER about me and always about US. I have turned down sponsorship at every turn. I have spent hundreds of hours fighting for YOUR dream while YOU sat around and played video games...and all on my own time and eating into family life and job obligations. How dare you. You prick. Epic fail? The WFP boards hasn't even officially launched yet. So easy for you to get tough when the dream has now been realized. I haven't changed one inch. Not a bit. Not at all. You try taking flack at every turn and see if you don't pat your accomplishments on the back here and there. Wait, all you do is knock others hard work under an alias. You're right I WOULD throw you under the bus. Gladly. Prick. Don't worry about deuchebags such as he Darren. For every one Go Jets Go like him, there's a thousand like us that see clearly what you have accomplished and what it means brother.

Haters gonna hate. It's easy to sit behind a computer and talk Go Jets Go AFTER everything has been done. When has this guy stuck his head out for bringing awareness to bringing back the Jets?

Dear Darren, I can still recall when I first found this site. it was 7 years ago. I was impressed that I was not the only one who held up hop that the Jets were coming back. In fact, when I joined the Jetsowner message forum over six years ago, I was really excited. finally I could chat with people who believed the Jets would return. I stood by you thick and thin while others mocked you as a dreamer and a loon. We all did. It was a community of belivers. We each contributed our part for the dream that the Jets would one day return. Unfortunately, you changed. When the media spotlight was upon you, the forum became the "Darren Ford Show." You took credit for everything, while throwing your loyal followers under the bus. It became clear to me and many others that you had turned into a self absorbed Go Jets Go, who only was in it for himself. Now the joke is on you. The Winnipeg Free Press forum is an epic fail. You could have left Jetsowner open to the people who wanted to turn it into the unofficial NHL Jets forum. There were offers, even people ready to buy the domain off you. Instead you acted like a first class jackass. I feel like an idiot because at one time I defended you unconditionally. However, i have seen your true colours. You were only in it for yourself. Your vague and convoluted predictions about the Jets made me realize you were a phony. It's over, Darren. Your WFP forum is an epic fail. You sold us loyal Jetsowner followers all out. I hope you are satisfied. No really?? Off your meds there pal? Wow.

I have to agree that putting his signature on the shirts looks like a VERY egocentric move. I do think, however, that this was unintentional as Darren has always seemed to have the best intentions.
If there is one thing that you (Darren) are guilty of, it is having a thin skin. You can't take the accusations and implications of a bunch of random internet posters to heart. It wont do you any good and will just upset you. And this is a time of great celebration!!!!
So kudos to you Darren and good luck at the Free Press forum.

If Darren did nothing more then start a forum, then why did he get invited into the press conference when they announced the Jets where coming back? Why did Mark Chipman become his friend? He just started a forum, nothing more.... C'mon man, give your head a shake. Ya....because i'm sure back in 2003, when there WAS NO OWNERSHIP GROUP even established, I hate to nitpick but in 2002 MC was sitting in the NHL box at the Olympics with Gary Bettman talking ROTJ and in fact had planted the seeds a couple of years before that. DF may have been unaware at that point that there was an interested owner (why else would a year later he create a site looking for a Jetsowner? LOL) but that's a fact.

why do you respond Darren? I do think you want a hero cookie sometimes, but meh you did start a pretty awesome forum. Unfortunately that's all you did, sometimes you make it sound like you were directly responsible... that I do not understand If Darren did nothing more then start a forum, then why did he get invited into the press conference when they announced the Jets where coming back? Why did Mark Chipman become his friend? He just started a forum, nothing more....
C'mon man, give your head a shake. I can speak directly to this point. Seeing as the forum is set to be shut down by the end of the week, I might as well post the significant bits of my time at the press conference. I met Darren Ford for the first time at the MTS Centre on the day of the press conference. I was there as a representative from The Manitoban (I've been writing for them for the past couple years, always tried to write as many pro-Return of the Jets articles as my editors would allow), and I immediately noticed Darren hanging out around the Tim Hortons in the arena, on the phone doing and setting up interviews for different outlets. Since I got to the MTS Centre well before the press conference was scheduled to start, I sat down and talked to Darren for about 30-45 minutes. We talked about all things Jets and ROTJ. I will be honest, when I first approached him, I thought he MIGHT be the type of Go Jets Go that every troll tries to paint him as, but it couldn't be farther from the truth. He was incredibly easy to talk to and was just super friendly. Anyways, to get to the crux of the issue, when I brought up how I was actually going to be able to get into the press conference, and how excited I was, he explained how he wasn't even 100% aware the press conference was going to be at the MTS Centre or not. He mentioned considering getting ahold of Scott Brown (TNSE media relations), but figured that today was a busy enough day for the folks of TNSE, and as much as he would have loved to get in there, he just didn't want to try to talk his way into the press conference.Darren also went over the history of his interactions with Mark Chipman and TN over the years, and how he had gone from a 'potential crazy person' to a trusted confidante. When it was time for me to get down to the press conference room, I bid Darren farewell and good luck with all his celebrations throughout the day. As I sat in the press conference room waiting for the presser to start, I followed twitter and saw Darren tweet that Mark Chipman himself was going to be leading him through the check point. After hearing Darren talk about his relationship with TNSE, and specifically Mr. Chipman, it just does not surprise me that Mark would call Darren hours before the big announcement.
And finding out that Darren was hanging around the MTS Centre, why wouldn't he invite him into the press conference? despite the significance of the press conference, it wasn't packed to capacity in there, and there were a couple open seats even during the press conference. The very necessary tl;dr Darren is a great dude, and it was pretty much a lucky coincidence and an example of our owner Mark Chipman's loyalty that he invited Darren into the press conference. Darren, feel free to correct anything that I might have stated incorrectly, or misquoted you on! - Marc L

Disgusting!!! What a sad bunch of cowardly, losers. Joining a site after the Jets do return for the simple reason of bashing the grass roots leader?!?!
Bunch of fukcing losers!!!! Sorry for the language, but these folks have nothing better to do but join a site simple to bash someone?!?! Losers, pure and simple. Don't worry guys, once the Jets have their first losing streak they will break their ankles jumping off the bandwagon.
These people are not fans, just very depressed, uninspired, jealous, losers that were likely sulking the very woe is me pathetic life they live, while DARREN was starting a conversation about the very realistic possibility that this fine city could infact support the return of the NHL, while very few were talking about it. Not only did Darren talk about it, but he polled business folk, ran realistic numbers that are very similar to the ones that TNSE used for the drive to 13000
So ask yourselves losers, what were you doing to help the cause while Darren was doing this?!?!?! Fukcing losers!!!!
