The opening line in the story " Sen. John McCain has called for Glendale, the Goldwater Institute and the Phoenix Coyotes to sit down and resolve their differences so the NHL team will stay in Glendale." says a bunch..... Apparently McCain has no respect for the rule of law as anything goes when it's "for the good of ?".....

My favorite part is where they say "he would pay the city $25 million to reimburse it for losses this season", like Hulsizer is paying them out of his own pocket, and it's some new concession. Is that not their own $25M currently in escrow, that the NHL is contractually obligated to return, when the sale closes with a Glendale purchaser? That has nothing to do with Hulsizer.

Invoking the good name of Senator Barry Goldwater to back an illegal deal says much of his integrity !

If the Coyotes leave, we lose 1,000 jobs, the West Valley is harmed very badly economically, the city of Glendale is hurt very badly, the Valley losts its status as a major league player," McCain said.
The Valley losses it's status as a major league player, besides the few true hockey fans down there, this is what it is all about for them!

Doesn't make sense anyways, since they still have the cardinals playing there and obviously Phoenix has the Suns and Diamondbacks.

NYC, Chicago,Detriot, Philadelphia,Denver,Washington,Dallas,Miami,Boston,Atlanta(lol),Minneapolis. This will be a huge blow to the Valley's ego. Too bad, soo sad! And IMO this is the main reason some people are so vocal for them staying. Unfortunately for them words don't pay the bills!

Well that's what they get I guess... when you don't consider the NHL to be a 'major league' in terms of actually supporting it, this is what happens. I understand your point, but that seems more like a statistical thing. I mean, how could people's pride take a "huge blow" just from losing a team 3/4 of them didn't even know existed, let alone care about.

How can he say that with a straight face?

Why doesnt a media outlet look into how much damage was done in Winnipeg and Hartford and Quebec when their teams left? Squash this nonsense about the area being boarded up. If people have money to spend on hockey, they will spend it on something else.

This is crazy already. Give it up. I really thought this deal was dead. If not, dead by the end of the week being today but with this garbage, I'm guessing one more week of crap to come.

If people have money to spend on hockey, they will spend it on something else. They are all now ghost towns! No one lives in those cities anymore! I think there is a truckstop now where Winnipeg used to be.

Mccain was wrong about Palin and is wrong here too. How does he know Goldwater (the politian not the instituite) would be 4 this deal ? He doesn't, and Barry probably wouldn't. McCain has treid to compare himself to Goldwater a number of times, especially in the run-up to 2008. And he's been shot down repeatedly. The NY Times, CC Goldwater, Barry Goldwater Jr, 60 minutes, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, even the Arizona Republic, have all published or produced stories refuting this claim. Politically McCain and Goldwater are night and day.
