I drove past the U of M new stadium site yesterday. Looks like they have hammered in quite a few pillars already. It's going to be interesting to see what it looks like in the summer.

wonder if they will have a live cam like MTSC had to follow the progress? There already is a live cam up and running. You can find it on the Bombers website.

Lots of money for somthing that only generates money maybe 30 days of the year! Same can be said for nearly every CFL, NFL, NCAA and CIS football stadium in existence. Deal with it.

This is far down the road still, but perhaps (one day) we could have a heritage game out there

Oh I will, and every other Manitobain soon as the Bombers can't pay for it. Not against construction that's what we/I do, but if we just put on the brakes, and looped it in with the Convention Center, we would have a amazing facility that would also have the ability to generate money 365 days of the year. Would of cost a lot more but there would be a return on the dollar.

The site across from the Convention Centre is about 190 yards long from Edmonton to Hargrave Street, and about 118 yards across from the back of the office buildings along Broadway to York Avenue. Unless you want a 2,000 seat practice field for the Blue Bombers, that site would have been WAY too small for football.

Or you find a different footprint of land so impossible not even close.

Knock what down, the Convention Centre? Now you're talking a project north of $500 million. And the L-shaped lot is still too small for a football stadium.
Football stadiums don't work in downtown settings. They are simply too big.

Enclosed and like building a hockey rink on a small piece of land, playing surface below ground level. And yes 500 mill project, not a bad investment when you can actually recover your investment.

I drove past yesterday, was the first time I had seen the actual location. I thought it was closer to Pembina or some reason. I have concerns regarding the parking and traffic volume through the campus on game days. There's plenty of parking on campus but some of it is a bit of a hike. Also, i I remember correctly there's only 3 routes in or out...University Cres, Bison Dr, and Kings Drive. Heard a rumour that there will be no road upgrades/expansion. If that's the case, it's going to be a gong show trying to get out after a game.

I like it right where it is ... close enough to home that I don't have to pay for parking or worry about getting a DUI. Its just a sobering up walk from my front door eh! ;D

I think we pulled a Glendale move by putting the stadium where it is. Too far for a good chunk of Winnipeg fans.

I live in North Kildonan but I don't mind where the new stadium is being built.

Winnipeg is not Phoenix... virtually the entire city of Winnipeg (plus outlying areas) is with a 25 km driving distance from the new stadium. Conversely, 25 km from jobing.com arena doesn't even get you to downtown Phoenix, nevermind the Scottsdale area where much of their fanbase is located.
