Would TNSE consider bringing another team or two to town to play at the MTSC?
1) There are successful WHL teams in practically every Canadian NHL market (not sure about Montreal). Costs associated with a WHL team are pretty low and there is bound to be a following, especially for people priced out of the NHL market. It could be a cash cow for TNSE that could subsidize their NHL operations.
2) There have been a couple of minor pro basketball teams that have passed through town and while they generated a bit of fan interest, they had a tough time of it because they had to rent their facilities, and those facilities were either bad for basketball (Winnipeg Arena) or downright horrible (Winnipeg Convention Centre).
Since TNSE runs the arena, they could have a team in the CBA or the NBA D-League (there are teams as close as North Dakota) play on off-nights at the MTSC. It would be a fun "family" sort of thing with cheap tickets and good fun. The best part is the costs would be minimal, so it could bring in some dough for TNSE to direct towards the NHL. And it would give us one more pro team to hopefully break our championship drought dating back to 1994, but that's another story.

I don't think TNSE would want competition for hockey towards the Moose. If anything, I wouldn't mind if they got something to fill the arena during the summer. Maybe an indoor soccer team?!?

Here in Calgary, the WHL Hitmen make the Flames a ton of money.
Ticket prices are cheeper, but , everything else like concessions are at NHL prices.
Does anyone know who owned the WHL Winnipeg Warriors and why thet moved to Moose Jaw.

I don't know who owned the Winnipeg Warriors but they started up in 1980 and four pretty undistinguished (read: terrible) seasons in the WHL which led to similarly lousy attendance. The team left for Moose Jaw in 1984. Man, was there some lousy hockey being played in this town in the early 80s...
By the way, did you know Mike Keane's first WHL game was with the Winnipeg Warriors?
Anyway, the Oilers own the Oil Kings too. It probably brings in some decent money by selling less expensive tickets to families. I don't see why it couldn't work here.

They could have built the Iceplex with WHL in mind but they skimped out on seats... still a great facility though.

The WHL would be good.
I don't think basketball would work, though. They've tried it before, with the Thunder and the Cyclone, and both times it just kind of fizzled out.

The difference was that the team owners had to pay big rent dollaz to the Arena and Convention Centre respectively, whereas under TNSE, a team could play on nights off with no rent to pay. Also, the Convention Centre SUCKED for hoops whereas the MTS Centre would be pretty good. It could work out differently, although I guess like with any minor league sports it's always a bit of a struggle to build a profile in the community.

As someone who has been heavily involved in the Ontario Lacrosse Association over the past half dozen years, I have been told by several people involved in the NLL that Winnipeg has been considered for relocation and expansion but don't if it is still on the list.
Lacrosse is a great sport to watch and I think Winnipeggers would take a shine to it, especially considering that there being only 8 games a year plus playoffs, it is not a big time commitment.

Just out of curiosity why would you like the WHL over the AHL when the AHL is made up of mostly former star junior players, who aren't ready for the NHL yet.

Cause excitement usually results from poor hockey play. Skill and great hockey play usually results in a less exciting, more tactical game. Less turnovers etc... The AHL is at least 5x better hockey, at least.

What about the NLL? They've considered expanding; I think it would be good to grow the sport of lacrosse, plus it would be cheap. I envision the attendance being about 90% families.

I definitely think a WHL team is a possibility in the future. There were even rumors that TNSE wanted to bring the Blades here a while back.
There are a lot of people who can afford Moose tickets but probably couldn't afford NHL tickets. The WHL would be a great alternative for those fans.
