Add me to the Jets camp. Along with the caveat that if its not Jets I'll still support the team. But I absolutely one hundred percent hope we bring back the Jets brand if we get a team.

If its Phoenix, the brand loyalty and emotion with "Jets" is huge.
I'd argue it was the same with the North Stars in Minnesota - and anywhere else where they loved their team for years. Cleveland, Atlanta (Flames), Colorado (Rockies), San Fran (Seals), etc. really don't count as those teams weren't around long enough for fans to get attached. I'd argue that Minny got attached to the North Stars (couple of cup runs) and had to change to Wild when their team left to Dallas. It has taken a while for Minny folks to be attached to the Wild, but they really didn't have a choice.
If Dallas had failed (may still) before Minny got their team back -and the team was rumoured to be moving back to the Twin Cities (or our situation right now) do you think they would call them something different (say the Wild) or go back to the North Stars? I'd argue that it's North Stars all the way.
That's why i think there are so many people that want their Jets back - history and all. If we get them back, please call them the Jets. If its another franchise or an expansion franchise - then, like Minny, we will reluctantly jump behind our new team.
In the CFL, when they changed the Montreal team back to the Allouettes - after a failed Concord experiment - the franchise has done well. We Canadians are loyal to our team names. Ottawa has left the Rough Riders name for Renegades, etc - and has failed. I wonder if the new expansion franchise was named Rough Riders - if they would do well. But only in the CFL do you have two teams with the same name. Wow.
Phoenix = JETS to many.

I would love for them to be named the Jets! I would be a little bitter if they changed the name but i would love and support the team no matter what they end up calling it... As long as its not something stupid..

Jets! This is where the team name should be discussed.

Brandon, shmandon. When they rename their team the "Manitoba Wheat Kings" then we'll talk. Agreed. No matter what name people may personally prefer, I just don't see how there is any reason why Manitoba as a name would be an advantage. I was born and raised in Winnipeg, but I consider the wheaties to be my home team... because who the heck else would be my home team? Plus, them coming to town for upcoming playoff games makes me feel a lot more connected than them changing their name to "Manitoba Wheat Kings" ever would. I know the Jets can't play a playoff game in Brandon (or Saskatoon, or Thunder Bay, etc), but they could do marketing in these surrounding areas, they could perhaps hold a day or two of training camp there, etc to build a relationship with those areas and make other communities feel like the Jets are "their" team.

every time i hear more rumours that the new winnipeg NHL franchise wont be called the jets i want to punch someone in the face. how stupid is true north? I hate weighing on these posts ... but I have to after this type of ignorant and thoughtless post. It makes perfect sense that TNSE would like to carry on the "Moose" brand. 1. They already have existing merchandise. WTF is he going to do with a bunch of "Moose" merchandise? How much do you think that's worth? 2. Signage and advertising costs. Do you have ANY idea what so ever what it costs to create a brand? What about all those "Moose" signage, letterhead, branding costs? Might as well just toss those dollars right into a shredder. Do you have any ideas the costs involved in creating new letterhead and signage? 3. They OWN the "Moose" name. The NHL owns the "Jets" name. Do you think that Bettman and the NHL are just going to hand it to them for FREE? It's really easy for you to sit behind your keyboard and screen and talk about punching people in the face over this. It's easy for you to whine and complain about all this - but guess what? It's NOT YOUR MONEY!!! Do you have the money to bring the team here? What's that you say? No? To you sir, I say that if TNSE is able to make our dreams come true and bring an NHL team to our fine city, then you should simply shut your hole and be THANKING YOUR LUCKY F'N STARS that they had the money any thought to make it happen. /end rant I won't address every point, on here, but I will address 2 of them: 1) Yes there is a cost to establishing a brand, but frankly, I believe the Jets brand is far, FAR bigger throughout the world than the Moose brand is. So this whole arguement about the cost of creating a brand really works against itself. The actual costs of signage and advertising won't really be that dramatic. I mean, renting TV ads, Radio ads, billboard space, etc --> none of this will change with a Jets logo, Moose logo or anything else. The only real cost of changing this type of stuff is on TNSE property (ie the MTS Centre). And either way there will be costs involved, as the transition to the NHL is certainly going to mean that almost everything gets changed at least a little. 2) I just hate the arguement of "It's not your money, so shut your hole if you don't like the name". First of all, that's just a terrible way to do business. Thank god if TNSE does go with a name that isn't the Jets, they will certainly do a better job of marketing that decision than you have. And secondly, WE ARE PAYING FOR THE TEAM! TNSE, as much as I love 'em, aren't giving these tickets away. If we weren't willing to pay market prices for tickets, we would not be getting an NHL team. So yes, as paying customers, we certainly are stakeholders of this team.

I'm young, I want change. Baby boomers want the Jets so they can re-live something.
The Moose brand is big with the young crowd. The FUTURE crowd.
Get with the times.

Not the place to discuess this, but if you're going to give absolutely terrible reasoning I have to butt in. Associated with on-ice failure? I don't think so, I happen to have tape of the Jets winning the last ever AVCO cup, defeating Gretzky's oilers for the final championship. I recall a young kid named Teemu setting some sort of rookie record for goal scoring. I remember the first NHL team to defeat the Soviets when no one else could "Name that has nothing to do with the culture of the province" --> We have several aerospace industries that do major work in the province, and are home to a major Air Force Base (17 Wing). If you hated the Jets so much, why are you even on this site? Not only do I have great memories of the Jets, but the logic of changing the team name because they didn't win is just plain stupid, in my opinion. By that logic, I guess the Leafs need to change their name IMMEDIATELY. Heck, every team that doesn't make it to say, the 3rd round better change things up each year. /rant And if you want to reply --> Do it here: returnofthejets.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=polls&action=display&thread=10594&page=10This is why I barely post. I'm young, I want change. Baby boomers want the Jets so they can re-live something. The Moose brand is big with the young crowd. The FUTURE crowd. Get with the times. All I will say is this: 1) I am young (25), and I can tell you that everyone I know between 20-25 years of age wants the name to be Jets. As every poll I have ever seen will attest to. Whether public opinion is the right one or not is perhaps up for debate, but I don't think you can even debate what the public opinion is here... people want "Jets" 2) Do you really think the name of the team is all that can or will effect the teams success? I guess we better name them the Winnipeg Winners then

I hope 20 years from now, after you have given your heart and soul to our new NHL team "the young and future crowd" demands to change the name because they want something new.

we will probably see TN get the rights to the jets and have it as a third jersy
I think that would be a good compromise
and they bring out all the old jets in the opener, have them come on in jets, take them off and have moose/falcons/swampdonkeys underneath.7
if it is moose i hope for a colour change, not a fan of that green.

I can get over not calling them the Jets, but the Moose sorry hated it when it was announced still do. I remember when Ross Robinson told me the name and asked me what I sought, just laughed told him it sucked.
