I am for the name Jets, esp if it was Phoenix that moved. But if they do pick a different, fresh new one, I can understand that. The only thing I wouldn't want would be *insert team here* moves to Winnipeg and we kept that name (Thrashers, Coyotes, etc). Which I highly doubt would happen anyway. That, or a stupid new name just for the sake of new.
Jets is my first choice, but a different name may not be bad if thats they direction they decide to go.

I'm thinking this is either the 100th will the team be called the jets thread I've seen but I guess with all the new members theres no harm in a new one. I voted yes but I wouldnt be surprised if they introduced a new logo or jersey design to help move merchandise.

I have thought about this for a few years now and keep coming to the conclusion that it has to be JETS. I just love the name and it flows well..... Winnipeg Jets.... Many on here mention Victorias and I do understand the history with that name but geez it just doesn't roll off the tongue that easily. Obviously I would live with any name because the real important thing in all this is having a team in the NHL. ;D
We've had a poll on the Manitoba Mythbusters site for a while now (in its third incarnation, since I had to rebuild the site then find a "polls" plugin that worked). I've compiled the results as they currently stand. I've also included the comments that were added...
If and when the NHL returns to Winnipeg, what name should the team be given?
Posted on: 2010-02-12 13:18:24 By: Anonymous Something NEW. Respect the legacy of the Winnipeg Jets, but, remember that they were a very poor-run & poor-playing hockey club. And remember that an actual "Jet" has little significance in Winnipeg and Manitoba.
"Manitoba Moose" just sounds so minor-leagish.
A new name. A new arena. A new NHL. A new identity. A new attitude. A new ownership group. New, new, new.
The "Winnipeg WhiteOut", for example, would be a good choice. Of course, "WhiteOut" would reference our blizzards & frigid winter temperatures here in Winnipeg and of course the playoff tradition of the Jets.
When Minnesota got an NHL franchise back, they named them the "Wild". This of course signifies the rugged Minnesota Wilderness and they honoured the North Stars by placing the "North Star" as the eye of the bear in their logo.
Posted on: 2010-03-27 11:51:20 By: Anonymous "Poor run,, poor played" R U insane,, if not for the oilers in the 80's the Jets would have one or 2 cups. getting knocked out of the playofs in the first round by the best team on the planet affect your revenues.
If "Jets" is unavailable... Posted on: 2010-02-13 09:02:47 By: Anonymous Without a doubt, if the team is still able, legally, to be called the "Jets", this would certainly be preferred. However, if the name "Jets" is unavailable (last I heard, Barry Shenkarow still had the rights), I suggest the name, the "Winnipeg Falcons", in honour of the first Olympic gold medal winning hockey team in 1920 ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winnipeg_Falcons ).
The beauty of the name "Winnipeg Falcons" is that not only does it have a Manitoba historical and natural connection, but it maintains a loose connection with the Jets via the "flying" connection.
There can only be one... Posted on: 2010-02-17 18:16:04 By: Anonymous ...The Winnipeg Juggernauts

Posted on: 2010-03-25 14:43:18 By: Anonymous winnipeg warriors, as a tribute to our old whl team
Posted on: 2010-03-26 08:53:40 By: Anonymous Something NEW! The Jets were a poorly-run, poorly-playing sports team. The Moose are a minor league team.
New identity all the way!
Posted on: 2010-03-27 11:54:40 By: Anonymous hey try travelling ,, Jets is recognized by hockey fans in any city that has hockey,, keep it .. It is classic.
Posted on: 2010-03-29 14:11:50 By: Anonymous They need to be named something really cool if they keep the name "JETS" at least update their logo but I think they should start over !
Posted on: 2010-03-29 14:14:41 By: Anonymous ArticCats, Whiteout I like that also, Blizzard, Storm, Jets with a new logo, Icemen
Posted on: 2010-03-29 14:39:32 By: Anonymous I really think they should be called the winnipeg yeti.another name is the twisters.
Posted on: 2010-03-30 13:08:01 By: Anonymous i like the name yeti
Posted on: 2010-04-02 09:31:03 By: Anonymous If by some twist of fate, the Jets return from Phoenix, they should definitely reclaim the name of the Jets, since it's their name. It will be a return from exile. If some other franchise comes to Winnipeg, then I think this question of Jets, Moose or something new should be taken to the fans in a referendum.

Falcons are okay - as we have endangered peregrine falcons here.
Other things that are Manitoban... The provincial bird of Manitoba is the Great Gray Owl - ah, no. Provincial flower - Prairie Crocus. Provinical tree - white spruce. Symbol of Manitoba - Bison and Polar Bears.
I've been pushing the name Manitoba Golden-Jets on here a bit. what does everyone think? i feel that its a good combination of new and old. its a connection with Bobby Hull, the golden boy on the ledge, and the old Jets name. Like the Blue Bombers most of the time people drop the blue part of the name so the same can happen with the Golden Jets. the team could have new colours as well. maybe Blue and gold!!!
kenas10: Go Jets Go! Here we are 7 years later starting the Conference Finals against the Las Vegas Knights! I'm still a season ticket holder, have been since day 1. I was KennyS and was on the forum the whole time!! Blast reading all of this. Go Jets Go!
