Watched (and loved) the Don Cherry bio-pic on CBC last weekend.
Seeing the footage from the 1978 Stanley Cup finals had me wondering...just how would have the Winnipeg Jets of the WHA, led by stars like Bobby Hull, Anders Hedberg, Lars-Erik Sjoberg and the like have fared in the NHL? Could they have held their own against the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup final?
Everyone old enough will remember the miserable first season for the Jets in 1979-80, but that team was dramatically different than the one which won consecutive Avco Cups in 1978 and 1979. The stars were gone and the Jets were basically a glorified AHL team for those first two NHL seasons.
How would the Jets have held up against NHL competition in those days? I think they played some exhibition games against NHL teams and won a few, lost a few, but what if the stakes were high?

Think so? There were some great players on those teams... the Habs had Lafleur, Shutt, Robinson, Dryden... the Bruins had O'Reilly, McNab, Park... would have been some stiff competition for sure!
