Should/when the day comes that the Jets return to Winnipeg, there are a couple things that are missing from the MTS Centre.
I, of course, refer to the retired jersey banners of Bobby Hull and Thomas Steen.
Once those banners have been raised to their rightful place, the question I pose to everyone is, which former member(s) of the Winnipeg Jets do you feel should have their jersey numbers raised to the rafters alongside these two players?
As much as I would like to add a few more, I'll keep it to a minimum for the time being and retire only Dale Hawerchuk's #10.
Upon his retirement, I would also add Teppo Numminen's #27.
I'll leave it open to everyone else now.

sure, why would that have anything to do with it? doug smail wore #9 after hull and zhamnov wore #10 after hawerchuck. it makes no difference who wears the number after.

Didn't Hawerchuck already have his number retired after the Jets left or was that not official?
I would nominate Numminem to be the next player to have his number retired.

Dale's number is still available for use for moose players. It was used by someone briefly during Smyl's "we could care less about winning" tenure in Winnipeg. Nice job on the part of true north and the canucks of peeing on the Jets legacy once more. Thankfully, Randy hasn't allowed #10 to be used since his return.
Here's my picks for retired numbers:
#1 Joe Daley: Nobody won more s in a Jet unifrom, won more awards or won more championships than the "Holy Goalie". He also completely outclassed Tretiak when they faced each other in 1978. No other goaltender can make this claim.
#10 Dale Hawerchuck: A no brainer that the moose have still refused to aknowledge. Most unde superstar of all time? I think so.
#4 Lars Erik Sjoberg: Other than Slava Fetisov, Shoe was the greatest European defenceman of all time and the anchor of those great championship teams. Lars was also the first European captain in North American pro hockey history as well as the first European captain in NHL history. The entire European invasion in Winnipeg all starts with Sjoberg.
#27 Teppo Numminen: This one can wait until he retires. (I have no doubt he will be still playing and able to wear a Jet uniform once more when the Jets return.)
#8 Randy Carlyle: No brainer.
#2 Dave Ellett: Easily the most unde defenceman of the 1980's. While guys like Larry Murphy hung on forever and set records that got them in the hall, Davey was simply better than they were. Until Brian Leech came alone he was considered the best American born defenceman ever to play in the NHL to boot. Also he scored the ot winner in gaim 4 in the 1990 playoffs against the Oilers and in gaim 1 of the 1985 first round against Calgary.

Actually Big Chris, Tim Smith wears number 10 for the Moose. I guess that means Randy's pissing all over the Jets legacy or something like that, right? I'll just wait until you come up with a way to blame that on Chipman and CJOB too. Paranoid! Oh, and I'm not registered either! Drives you nuts, right!!

As much as I love Ellett, Numminen, Carlyle etc, I set the bar very high for this kind of honour. Therefore, the only other number I'd retire is Teemu's.
To me, anyone up for consideration should have at least three of these four attributes: 1. he should have played the majority of his career with the team. 2. he should be a superstar. 3. he's identified primarily as a Jet, no matter where else he played. By this I mean, they played their best years in Winnipeg. 4. he should be a class act, on and off the ice.
Selanne has 2, 3, and 4. Anyone else either isn't big enough of a star (Daley, Numminen), or had too much success elsewhere (Carlyle with Pittsburgh), or played elsewhere for too long (Ellett with Toronto)
The exception would be if Phoenix relocates back to Winnipeg - then I'd add Teppo to the list.
Just my opinion...

Actually, all of the names I stated above did indeed play the majority of their careers as Jets. By all accounts Carlyle played the best hockey of his career as a Jet in the 9 years he played here and was a 3 time all star.
Numminen was never an all-star but can you honestly say there has been a more deserving Winnipeg Jet for this honor that hasn't already been honored?
Sjoberg only played for one North American pro team and that was the Jets and he did so for 6 years and was our only Best Defenceman trophy winner in either the WHA or NHL and was a 4 time all-star. He also wore the C here for 5 years, only Hawerchuck was captain longer here.
Ellett also played the best years of his career in Winnipeg and while he was never an all-star, was always considered one of the better defencemen in the league. (Also, never forget 1990!)

Because it recognizes the WHA years. And, for that reason you could also do the same thing for #14 & 15. Ask Bobby Hull about those two players. Problem being you can't retire every jersey number. That's why I think it has to be kept to #'s 9, 10, 25, & 27. But, when Teemu retires......?

I could care less if you're registered, or not. That's your choice. But, I'm a bit bothered that the Moose (who have said they would honor the Jets retired #'s. Yes, I know #10 isn't. But, we all know it should be) have never issued #'s 9 & 25. But, still have players wearing #10.
