Fergie tried, but was a horrible GM. Nice of him to trade Babych for some journeyman. We all know how that turned out. He also was "wise" enough to draft Jimmy Mann. Need I say more?

But he did draft two of the greatest players in our NHL history - Hawerchuck and Selanne. Fergie's heart was in the right place. He loved the franchise but sometimes frustration over having to face the powerful Oilers every year (or Flames) and playing in the toughest division of the time lend itself to making changes every year to the point where some of these changes (read: Babych trade) were just downright crazy.
