www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=292055PHOENIX -- The judge overseeing the Phoenix Coyotes bankruptcy case has called an emergency hearing for Wednesday. The hearing will give NHL lawyers an opportunity to present arguments against Jerry Moyes' request that the league be forced to mediate "key sale issues." The hearing in Redfield T. Baum's Phoenix courtroom is expected to last no more than 30 minutes. Moyes proposed mediation in court filings last week after the NHL rejected a request by one of Moyes' lawyers. Baum presided over an auction for the team on Sept. 11 and has left everyone waiting for a decision ever since. He's deciding between Jim Balsillie's bid of US$242.5 million or the NHL's offer of $140 million -- although the judge has raised the possibility that neither side might get the team. ----- Man, will this judge ever make a decision?

I know at first this was an exciting story because you knew any day the Coyotes could finally be leaving but nothing progressive is happening and its becoming a headache.
On a different note though I can help but wonder what triggered an emergency meeting.

I know at first this was an exciting story because you knew any day the Coyotes could finally be leaving but nothing progressive is happening and its becoming a headache. On a different note though I can help but wonder what triggered an emergency meeting. The Melnyk interview with Bob Mcowan. BOB McCOWN. Here's a hypothetical one. EUGENE MELNYK.: Oh, boy. BOB McCOWN: Somebody comes along and says for reasons that would be inexplicable but nonetheless, I want to put a learn id Hull, do you have the constitutional ability to block that? EUGENE MELNYK: I believe we do. Yes, we have territorial rights. Yes, absolutely BOB McCOWN: Do those territorial rights extend beyond what we know they used to be which was that no two teams can play a game within the territorial rights of a third team to wit and I am just going cite like an example, LA and Atlanta could not play a game in the Toronto Maple Leafs Territory without the permission of the Toronto Maple Leafs Do you believe that the territorial rights extend beyond that? EUGENE MELNYK: You know, that is a question I can't answer. It's a legal question, but I will give you a perfect example because I wanted to do this. BOB McCOWN: Forty-five seconds. EUGENE MELNYK' Forty-five seconds. Mississauga, St. Mike’s Mississauga Majors, wouldn't it be great me bringing Ottawa Senators playing there for an exhibition match? I can't do that .You can't do it.BOB McCOWN: It's Leafs' territory.EUGENE MELNYK: I know for a fact I can't do that. BOB McCOWN: But you could have maybe negotiated with the Leafs to do it?
EUGENE MELNYK: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, sure, absolutely, but you got to negotiate it.BOB McCOWN: We got to get out of here. It's always a pleasure. Thanks so much. EUGENE MELNYK: Okay. All the best and I can't wait until the puck drops.

The most ironic thing in the whole scheme of things is this....Who do you think is going to pay for the Coyotes losses this year if Ballsillie doesn't get the team.
If you said the NHL will split it up you'd be wrong. You cant get blood from a stone and Tampa, Florida, Atlanta, Long Island, these teams that make no money are not going to contribute.
So TORONTO is going to have to shell out some big money to fund the coyotes. Other losers include: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa and Montreal.
The quicker these owners figure this out, the quicker Bettman is tossed and Hamilton gets what they should have got in 1990, a NHL team. But as the running joke goes, if Hamilton gets a NHL team, Toronto would want one too. Go Leafs!
