I used to be a huge Bomber fan and didn't watch a minute of the NFL. That changed about 10 years when I slowly started watching the NFL because some of my buds were into it big time. Now I am an NFL junkie and only watch the CFL for 2 reasons: 1 it passes the time until the real football starts 2 I like to support teams from my province. If the Bombers weren't in the league I wouldn't even follow the CFL. Anyway what are your thoughts?

I'm a big Bomber fan as well, as frustrating as that is, and I would probably watch CFL even if the Bombers weren't in the league anymore...
To me both brands would be very similar except for one position...QB. I hate watching the wobbly passes of the CFL game. NFL just seems so much more skilled and I think it's mainly because the QB's are that much better. That's not to say there aren't some real blah games in the NFL...there are a lot, but I have no problem finding a good game to watch even if I'm not a fan of the teams.
Go Saints!

I only watch the CFL because of the Bombers. Actually, I only watch the Bombers. But that's been on the downswing since Lyle Bauer took over. He's a joke. But that's another rant for another day.
The quality of play in the NFL is vastly superior. Yeah they miss guys occasionally (Doug Flutie, Warren Moon), but that's the nature of the league, and that stuff just happens sometimes.
Plus the CFL has some bizarre rules that no one can seem to explain how they work, not even the commentators. The 20 second clock, for instance. When do they start running it? When the ref blows the whistle. When is that? It's not when teams break huddle. It's not when the ball is placed. It's not immediately following the end of the previous play (barring timeouts like in the NFL). It's whenever. Instant replay is a joke when TSN only brings 4 cameras to the game. And don't get me going on the tendency to go long in the last 3 minutes despite being down 4 touchdowns. When it's 42-14 with 3 minutes left, it's over. Go home and fix your problems. So 5h!tty.......End rant.
Since it was mentioned, I think the CFL uses the wrong ball for a passing game, which makes the throws look awkward. The NFL ball is like a dart. Pointed tips, thin, easy to grip and fire. The CFL ball is like a shot-put, rounded, awkward, fat, better served for practicing free throws.

I watch both. I'm a Bombers fan, and my in laws are Rider and CFL fans, so that how I got into it. I like the NFL for sports select mostly.
The CFL ball is definitely awkward looking. Like throwing a misshaped basketball.

BEFORE, the CFL used to use the Spalding J5V as the official football. it closely resembled a rugby ball. Today the CFL uses the WILSON football it has the same dimensions as the NFL ball. so there you go.

I prefer the CFL but I watch both. The game in each league is different and both are entertaining. I like the fact that the seasons do not overlap each other too much. I think that the CFL should start about three or four week earlier and then the playoffs would not be so cold and there would be even less overlap (which would help to ensure the CFLs survival in Toronto if an NFL team ever relocates to that city).
All of the opinions in this thread are well written (i.e. they support why a person likes or dislikes which ever league). However I hate it when people say things like "the CFL sucks" or is not "real" football. Says who? Don't try and make others feel bad because they do not like what you like (this is not directed at anyone, just some general comments that I sometimes get).

I bought an official CFL ball last year and it is definitely more rounder than an NFL ball. Unless you meant today, as in they changed it for this season.
I like the speed of the CFL game more than the NFL 40 seconds is too long, I think 30 would be perfect. With 40 seconds if you're more than 7 points down you can't win after the 2 minute warning.
I've always wondered why the two leagues execute the onside kick differently. In the CFL the kicker kicks the ball high in the air while in the NFL the kicker kicks it into the ground first. Is it because the ball must touch the ground before the kicking team recovers the ball?

According to this site, the NFL and CFL balls are essentially the same size. Seems pretty authoritative.... The very last inspection stages have each ball being assessed for quality standards in appearance, shape, length, width, stitching, and weight. The specifications of Canadian and American footballs are slightly different. These specs imply that a Canadian football, on the average, will be a tiny bit shorter. A Canadian football, as shown by the specs below, is not slightly fatter, even though many football fans believe this to be the case. Since most official Canadian and American footballs are manufactured by Wilson, it is likely that their dimensions are actually indentical. National Football League (NFL) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) specs:Long circumference 27 3/4 (705 mm) - 28 1/2 inches (724 mm) Short axis - 20 3/4 (527 mm) to 21 1/4 inches (540 mm) Canadian Football League (CFL) specs:Long circumference 27 3/4 (705 mm) - 28 1/4 inches (718 mm) Short axis - 20 7/8 (530 mm) to 21 1/8 inches (537 mm) The chief difference between an NFL, NCAA, AFL and CFL balls is the type of stripe applied around the football 1 inch from each end: NFL balls have no stripes NCAA balls have broken stripes AFL balls are tan with two blue S-shaped stripes Canadian balls have complete white stripes reviews.ebay.com/Wilson-Footballs-Watch-One-Being-Made-Start-to-Finish_W0QQugidZ10000000000913445?ssPageName=BUYGD:CAT:-1:LISTINGS:3

Nothing like watching all the 2 and out's in the CFL. I just love watching the Bombers kick the ball away all the time. It makes for great football.......

CFL only for me... it's not that I don't like the NFL, it's just that the Bombers are my home team and I love to cheer them on in person. It wouldn't be the same for me to only ever watch the NFL on TV and see my team play once a season, if that. (Unless I had access to a private jet...then I might adopt the Dolphins, Bucs or Chargers as my other favourite football team )

I watch both but personally prefer the CFL more or less because it has more significance to my being a bomber fan. Plus I like the CFL because it seems to move a bit quicker what with only 3 downs. Still I liket o watch NFL to, esspecially the Bucs and Raiders.

Good responses. I wonder for all those that voted CFL would you vote the same if the Bombers weren't in the league (assuming you live in Winnipeg and are a Bombers fan)? Just wondering...

What is this NFL you speak of I have friends who watch the NFL for one reason only, more games to bet on.I watch all the CFL games on TV.Ill let my friends watch an NFL game on my tube, thats when i usually leave the house and find something better to do,or crawl up on the couch and fall asleep, but its going head 2 head with the CFL they are out of luck. I will bet on the NFL,but just because i need the games, but still wont watch it,I just find it slow for me.Whats really funny is when i do bet on the games,i pick the winner more then my friends do who really follow it,and i cant even name one QB for any team.but i can tell u of at least 2 former Bomber QB's who are coaching in the no fun league-lol
