Would be weird to have the NHL all star game in a city without an NHL team

Wow...Well the NHL clearly still believes they can make it work in Phoenix. I dont think they need to worry about keeping their promise to the people of Glendale seeing as none of them know or even care about the all star game.
Do they wonder why people like flamehot go and make threads like "NHL ALL STAR GAME IS A JOKE!! SO DAM EMBARRASING".

The NHL Draft was supposed to be in Winnipeg in June of 96', but was relocated when the Jets left. I guess if Phoenix gets the All-Star game without having an NHL team, it could mean there's still hope that Winnipeg will get the NHL Draft (sarcasm). I hate how the NHL is putting in a lot more effort to keep a team in Phoenix than they did to keep the Jets in Winnipeg.

Agreed, its pathetic how far they go to keep meaningless promises to the fans that dont care in Phoenix but they wouldnt work that hard for the fans here who actually cared!

I disagree. The NHL held off a move for a season to allow locals to try and keep the team here. It fell through. If Shenkarow didn't wanna keep 'em here, and the Spirit of Manitoba group couldn't seal the deal, who else would have? Unfortunately we had no other white knights, and a hostile political climate.
I am surprised the NHL keeps finding people to buy into the Coyotes, but as long as the land and facility is involved, a new face seems to pop up.....

Good point, and also what I said is labouring under the assumption that Davebabych is actually correct in what he says. I guess the point is that its quite clear that the NHL is going to extreme lengths to save the coyotes, looking for owners, denying Balsillies more than fair bid and now this. I was 5 when the Jets left so obviously my memory cant be relied on in this situation but from what I've heard/read the NHL did not try that hard to save our team and consider the fact that fans rallied and raised millions of dollars for the team something that will not happen in Phoenix.
With the economic climate being the way it is right now I find it hard to believe the NHL will continue to find owners for a team that is bankrupt, has an extinct fan base and the teams on ice performance which is directly linked to the fan support is mediocre at best.

The Phoenix group didn't feel they had enough time to get everything in place and opted to play one more season in Winnipeg. And I don't have a link supporting my claim that the draft was supposed to be here back in 96', but I just know because I was old enough at that time to remember losing the draft. Maybe some older forum members can back me up on that.

Fair enough dave, I hope you didnt take that as a shot at your credibility. Its just that theres always someone throwing out untruthfull claims on forums and what not so its always good to be at least a tad skepticall at times.

Yes the draft was coming here on the condition of a new arena,HELLUUUU!it's been almost 5 years now, when's the draft coming-lol
Hey does the city holding the draft or all star game need to have an NHL team?Looks like you dont need one to host the awards.Even an all star game full of cherry pickers holds more merit then an AHL team dressed in NHL colors.

The Phoenix group didn't feel they had enough time to get everything in place and opted to play one more season in Winnipeg. The transfer of ownership was on hold, and therefore not enough time to move the team, because the league allowed local ownership groups attempt to purchase the team from Shenkarow. And yes I remember the draft was supposed to be held here, in the old barn.
