Acording to the Sun
Probable
RW Mike Keane -- Barring a setback in summer training that would lead to retirement, the captain will be back for a fifth season. He's coming off a solid season of offensive production, remains one of the top penalty killers in the AHL and still yearns to bring a title to his hometown team. He's unrestricted, but will be back on an AHL contract.
D Nolan Baumgartner -- The veteran rearguard still eats up valuable minutes and can contribute at both ends of the ice. His work ethic and leadership make him a good fit to bring back to help show the way for the defence corps. Unrestricted on July 1, but could re-sign before that date.
LW Michael Grabner -- His breathtaking speed and ability to finish make him a candidate to crack the Canucks in fall, but we're guessing the Austrian needs at least another half to a full season before making the jump to the next level full-time. Entering the third year of his entry-level deal.
F Alexandre Bolduc -- Although he should be in the mix for a job on the fourth line with the Canucks, the swift skater is expected to spend some time with the Moose next season. He's got one more year on a two-year contract he signed with Vancouver last summer.
D Shaun Heshka -- A solid season makes it likely the restricted free agent will be qualified and brought back for a fourth season. He played valuable minutes on the second pairing. Traded to Phx
D Travis Ramsey -- The Californian made great strides as a rookie, while splitting the season between the AHL and ECHL, and figures to take on a larger role in Year 2.
RW Guillaume Desbiens -- The man who was a walk-on this season turned into an unsung hero, scoring 21 goals and should have earned himself a two-way deal with the Canucks. He's already under contract to Moose for 2009-10.
C Mario Bliznak -- As someone who had to battle for regular work and avoid a trip to the ECHL, the rookie was a pleasant surprise and showcased his strong skating and hockey sense as he finished the campaign as the shutdown centre. He's a more proven commodity going into the second year of his entry-level deal.
LW Pierre-Cedric Labrie -- The bruising forward with decent hands battled injury, but finished strong and is ready for the final season of his entry-level deal.
RW Matt Pope -- Despite joining the club after the clear-day roster freeze, the ECHL call-up proved to be a valuable member of the club, often finding himself on the top line. He's got great goal-scoring ability and a nose for the net he doesn't mind getting dirty, making his return as an unrestricted free agent a strong possibility.
C Dusty Collins -- A big body that can skate, Collins is on an AHL deal for next season and figures to be a guy Scott Arniel can lean on in a checking role.
Possible
LW Jason Jaffray (Signed by Calgary)-- Come July 1, the Olds, Alta. product will have a tough decision to make. As an unrestricted free agent he must weigh the opportunity with the Canucks against that of what could be many other NHL suitors. He's made Winnipeg his home, but that's no guarantee he won't sign elsewhere.
C Mark Cullen -- (Signed by Chicago)The veteran had a few injuries, but did a great job anchoring the second line and was very productive. He's an unrestricted free agent and is open to returning, despite getting no NHL games in last season.
D Nathan McIver -- The P.E.I. product spent a good chunk of the season in the NHL, but was used sparingly and he never really found his shutdown game upon his return. He's a restricted free agent and should be qualified. Still plenty of upside as a defensive defenceman.
D Daniel Rahimi -- The Swedish blue-liner showed improvement but was left off the clear-day roster for the second consecutive spring and saw no playoff action. He's going into the final year of his entry-level deal and should be in the mix.
D Taylor Ellington -- The Canucks' second-round pick in 2007 had a goal in his only professional game with the Moose and should work his way into a job in the fall as he starts his entry-level contract. Known as a strong puck-mover.
D Evan Oberg -- This 21-year-old undrafted free agent signing by the Canucks didn't see any game action with the Moose, but he's considered to be an offensive weapon after completing a strong season with the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. He could be the power play quarterback the Moose are looking for.
D Zack FitzGerald -- (Signed by Carolina) A useful player with plenty of toughness, FitzGerald showed more discipline this season and was steady in the playoffs but with a couple of young blue-liners on the horizon, he'll be on the bubble as a restricted free agent.
C Greg Rallo -- A fundamentally sound role player who does the little things well, Rallo's name will be under consideration for a return but a roster spot isn't assured.
RW Eric Walsky -- Signed by the Canucks out of Colorado College this spring, the strong skater had two assists in five games and figures to fight for a job in the bottom six forwards in fall.
RW Tommy Maxwell (Re-signed) -- A physical presence who isn't afraid to drop the gloves, the enforcer should receive an invitation to return to training camp and fight for a job.
Unlikely
G Cory Schneider -- The reigning AHL goalie of the year is ready for the next level, but with limited games to be had playing behind Roberto Luongo, there is a slim chance the Canucks could send the Marblehead, Mass., product back for one more season as he finishes his entry-level contract but we doubt it.
G Curtis Sanford (signed by Montreal) -- As an unrestricted free agent on July 1, Sanford should find himself with several suitors. If Schneider isn't back, the Moose will give him strong consideration as he played great when called upon.
C Jason Krog (signed by Atlanta) -- The playmaker enjoyed his season in Manitoba, but as an unrestricted free agent, he'll garner plenty of lucrative offers from North America and Europe, making a return unlikely. Getting only a brief three-game cameo with the Canucks early in the season didn't help matters either.
C Cody Hodgson -- (Could see action during Olympic break) There are only two places the 2008 first rounder can be when next season starts: in the NHL or in the Ontario Hockey League. The only way he sees action with the Moose would be after the junior season is over, should he be sent back.
RW Michel Ouellet -- A torn labrum brought his season to a premature end, but he was one of the top point producers on the team before the injury. He's scored 52 goals and 116 points in 190 NHL games but understands he'll probably have to sign a two-way deal this time around and work his way back to the NHL. The unrestricted free agent is open to a return to the Moose, if the Canucks offer him a contract.
D Maxime Fortunus (Dallas)-- As someone under contract to the Dallas Stars for next season, the fan favourite knows he won't be back with the Moose unless the Canucks trade for him or make some arrangement to get him on loan from the Stars, who'll have their own AHL affiliate next season in Austin, Tex.
D Mark Fistric (Dallas)-- You can file this one as an outright no. During his final call-up to the Stars, Fistric showed he was ready for prime time. After a strong Calder Cup playoff, this restricted free agent will be a full-time NHLer next season.
RW Ray Sawada (Dallas)-- The rookie is a budding power forward but is under contract the Stars, meaning he'll be in Dallas or Austin next season.
C Derek Nesbitt -- The man essentially acquired (on loan) in the deal for goalie Karl Goehring played well when given the chance, but is an unrestricted free agent who didn't crack the clear-day roster. He's likely headed elsewhere but could be back as a non-veteran with offensive upside.
D Travis Ehrhardt --(Signed by Detroit) The youngster got into three games, but with a well-stocked blue-line, he won't likely be back here, unless he agrees to an AHL-ECHL deal.
