As we all believed my friend. It is really, only a matter of time and patience now. With the Mayor and Council on board, existing clubs calling us, and the corporate sector ready to invest, now all that is left, is for Winnipeg to PROVE that we can support an NHL team.
Example, a mock season ticket drive? Winnipeggers putting their money where their mouth is? Several key businessmen stepping forward with the money, and a will to invest, and proof by the corporate sector that they could, and would purchase the 50 luxury suites at between $125-$170,000 each pre-paid? Perhaps we could sell mock shares in a new Jets team, much like the Bombers? The mock shares idea isn't new, and I've mentioned it before. There is a considerable amount of money to be banked should a large number of people and businesses choose to participate in this idea.
These are simply my thoughts, and they are reflective of a new NHL and AFTER the CBA War. Not necessarily something that needs to be done right now.

I like your thinking there Dreamboatannie. You remind me of a young Sam Pollock. Patience is absolutely essential for all involved...fans and potential owners alike. Why, if the Canadiens expected Guy Lafleur to lead the league in scoring his first year, we may have saw him playing for the Oakland Seals for all we know. But they showed patience and he rewarded them with a stellar career of which no Toronto Maple Leaf could ever compare. But I digress. I like the idea of a mock season ticket drive a lot.

I heard that program as well.
Stephen Brunt, Globe and Mail, said he believes that once the season is lost. Whenever the NHL comes back, all 30 will return but some won't survive. You can't have 4-6 teams claiming bankruptcy or simply bought out, therefore those teams will have to move where tickets can be sold. He said he thinks Winnipeg should get a team.
Freedman still gives me the impression he thinks there will be a season of some sort. Therefore in that scenario it is less likely teams will move and Winnipeg won't have a chance.
McCowan said he thinks it's only "a matter of time" at this point.
One of point mentioned was that NHL merchandise sales for the 2003 Christmas season compared to the 2004 Christmas season were down 85% in the United States.. I guess nobody misses it down there. Wonder Why? I don't even think baseball was hit that hard.

Considering how much McCown, and Hunt HATE Winnipeg and were quite celebratory when the Jets moved to Phoenix, this is quite an about face on their part. Brunt has been a cheerleader for the NHL coming back for years though. (His crowning quote was "the NHL should hold off on expansion and if Winnipeg, Minnesota, Hartford and Quebec build NHL calibre arenas, they should get their teams back, period.")
Everyone is on board except mark chipman who I quote, "isn't interested". Should we start a countdown to a buyout?
