BALSILLIE PLANS HAMILTON RALLY TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR NHL TEAM THE CANADIAN PRESS 6/18/2009 12:19:12 PM HAMILTON -- Jim Balsillie hopes to make a splash Friday with a rally in Hamilton as part of his so-called "Make It Seven Day." The BlackBerry billionaire, whose US$212.5 million bid for the Phoenix Coyotes was rejected by an Arizona bankruptcy judge Monday, believes a strong showing from fans will boost his pursuit of an NHL team for Southern Ontario. "Make It Seven day is all about providing a voice to Canadian hockey fans, while raising money for minor hockey teams across the country," Balsillie said in a statement. "Canadians have proven themselves to be the best hockey fans in the world. "They need to be heard." Balsillie's team has said the judge's ruling does not close the door on a deal for the Coyotes and a move to Hamilton. A campaign urging fans to send letters of support to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was launched Wednesday. "It all adds up," said Balsillie. "We have a market that is crying out for an NHL franchise, great fans, a plan for a state-of-the-art arena and tremendous corporate support." The NHL is looking for a buyer interested in keeping the Coyotes where they are. tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=282222My thoughts: Ok seriously, enough with the flag waving bullsh*t. You don't speak for Canada Jim! How many people outside SWO really want a team in Hamilton? Maybe after their own market is served, or generally think it would be ok, but I know I'm not pulling for him and I bet few others are either. I find it interesting they tie their rally to support for minor hockey. What's the matter, think not many people will show up otherwise? How many people will go for the minor hockey reason rather than the desire for a NHL team? Oh and here's another idea, renovate Copps with a bit more than just your own change instead of expecting the governments to do it.

To be quite honest, I believe that he is doing a great job. He has the city behind him, he has the cash, and he is working extremely hard to rally the fans in the area. We should be watching and learning from his mistakes. In my opinion one of our responsibility through here, Fan Challenge, Myth Busters and all other groups is to have the fans ready and committed to mobilize when the Winnipeg ownership group says go. Sounds like a lot on here believe that to be 2 years from now. That will come quick. Is there a plan?

I'm not saying this to piss you off but, this post makes it sound like you are so out of the loop. There is over 150 pages in The Return of the Jets: News & Media forum. If you read 50 of them you'd be better off. There is a lot more going on then you obviously know. Some of it has been semi leaked here, other is just speculation. Ballsillie is doing a lot right "for us", he's pissing them off so much Bettman would rather give us a team before him. Not sure how good that is but its a lot better than the same PR BS we kept hearing for years like "not looking at expanding, relocating, haven't studied the viability of Winnipeg." Bettman knows Winnipeg was lost because of an arena, now the arena there. *There is 500 less seats and and 42 more boxes. Ballsillie also got alot of documents public, constitution, by-laws, e-mails, financials, etc. He's spending great amounts of money fighting the leauge on "our behalf", it's great.

I have been going through and reading alot of things, thoughts and ideas, polls, charity, seating charts building designs, price points. I have been trying to get up to spead. That is awsome. The ownership group in Winnipeg, from what I understand have been meking all the right moves, patience, tact ect. While they conduct the business, we get the fan support and get ready to make the noise. I guess I am just still not sure of the purpose, goal, say mission statement of jetsowner.com and it's board. Now don't be offended I am very curious to learn.

He has a different approach and mindset on the whole ROTJ than you, as in, he is a one man show. There is no mission statement I am aware of, although I do not frequent the site. I believe the web site was originally started to counter the consistent naysayer crap that we cant afford the NHL and dispell that idea and inform the public that it was "possible" and "affordable". The number that kept getting thrown around (by media, OB espically Goeff Courier) on ticket prices was $100 minimum and $150 average, this pissed off DF. We all know the ultimate goal is to watch NHL hockey in the MTSC between 41 and 57 times a year. Unfortunately DF does not frequent the boards as often as some of us here. I thing he concentrates on the website and his blogs mostly.

All that rah rah rah stuff that Ballsilly is doing is exactly what we arent going to do, thats why the folks quietly at down at Tru North are inching ever closer and closer to the in door........
Now is not the time to lose our mind and act like a bunch of crazed apes with Jets Jerseys in the streets, there's no need.............
But, fire away if you must, get everyone hopes up, no ones to say that this will ever happen for sure, thats the false hope DF is trying to avoid giving everyone...........

No, not for sure, he has always maintained WHY and if a team came here they would be viable, he never promised it would happen for sure........but thats just my interpretation.........

Death was not trying to make anyone feel bad! He was stating his opinion which last time I checked was more then ok. By you telling him to grow up shows all you are looking for is a fight and that you are the one that needs some growing up. I don't want a fight, but really there was no need for that comment. Darren believes with all is heart that we will get a team it is a matter of time. DBP is just making a point that we should not go all ape like and ruin it for everyone, by making bad press, and looking like asses. Which I totally agree with and understand.

How the whole "Make It Seven" campaign turned out kinda reminds me of how Bin Laden was killed not by Dubya's admin, but by Obama's admin!
