Saturday’s Moose Game Encouraged to Be a ‘Black-Out’ May. 28, 2009 at 5:20 pm CDT in Sports Manitoba Moose hockey fans are being encouraged to wear black to the game on Saturday. Instead of the normal white, there needs to be a ‘black-out’ for a change. The same goes for Game 2 on Tuesday at the MTS Centre. So, dig into your closest and pull out some black or dark coloured clothing, or wear your dark Moose jersey for all remaining home games of the Calder Cup finals. At last check, almost 12,000 tickets had been sold to Saturday’s game against the Hershey Bears (spit). Support your local hockey franchise and buy a ticket to the game. Call 780-3333 or go online to Ticketmaster.ca. www.chrisd.ca/blog/9880/manitoba-moose-hockey-black-out/

The Dig for May 28 28/05/2009 4:24 PM | Comments: 1 It's not original. It's not groundbreaking, but we think it's very cool anyway. We have partnered with many media outlets in the city to push for a 'Black Out' during the home games of the upcoming Calder Cup finals at MTS Centre. Why black? Well, the Jets did the White Out thing. That was 13 years ago. We thought it would be awkward to go there again... kind of like dancing to your wedding song with your new girlfriend after the divorce. We think this one should be unique... The Moose colours are black and green. They could play Back In Black by AC/DC. It's all good. We recommend that you wear your green and black Moose jerseys, kind of like the Calgary Flames and their red jerseys. Failing that, a dark coloured shirt will do just fine. Plus, as the Oakland Raiders and New Zealand All Blacks will tell you, black is very intimidating. And slimming. www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/blogs/white/The-Dig-for-May-28-46403327.html

White-out indoors works well,it just pops out....Black may good for the outdoors on a non sunny day,but for an indoor arena it's just not a good idea, did the LA Kings not try this a few years back and it looked liked the arena was empty?

It never worked. Vancouver and the LA Kings tried it in the 90's and it didn't do much for either team.

Why did reading about a Black-Out give me a headache? I'll reserve my judgement of this idea until I see pictures of how it turned out.

I think it would be easier to do the whiteout.. everyone has that pride in the back of their head. Black would just confuse people. It would be really cool to see it, as we are the farm team for the Nuckers, and remember back in the day the black out in vancouver... but I think we best stick to white.

haha good call flippy! I still dont the problem with a black out is that the arena itself is too dark so black doesnt exactly pop out the way white does, the black will just kinda blend in.

From the looks of the arena, a lot of people were dressed in white, other in black, and most in street clothes. I would love to see a Winnipeg whiteout again, but maybe its not meant to be.

Black out is just a dumb idea for Winnipeg. What's the relevance to Winnipeg? Why create a completely reverse tradition that has zero visual zeal?
I don't think the Whiteout should necessarily have died with the Jets....to me it's a Winnipeg thing that we should all be proud of, with or without the Jets. You just need a real event with genuine excitment to make it work (came naturally with a Jets playoff game)...WJC came close...Moose maybe not quite as close but could have potential. I couldn't care less myself if the Moose do a whiteout, I'd just as soon see just normal apparel with a smattering of Jets and Moose jerseys. That rather than some new weird derivative tradition.

The Whiteout didnt "die with the Jets". We had a whitout at the 1999 WJHC.
