Coalition rallies to save the CoyotesA group of loyal and local fans called the Save the Coyotes Coalition are hosting a rally Saturday near Jobing.com Arena, the home of the Phoenix Coyotes - for the time being. The group is asking fans to wear white, reminiscent of the franchise's "White Outs" to the rally. With the triple-digit heat already upon us, wearing white might be a necessity. Besides, slather on enough sunblock and it could double as facepaint. The Phoenix Coyotes playoff White Out, last seen in April 2002. I get sick to my stomach everytime I hear them use the term whiteout. Go Jets Go you Phoenix, that's a Winnipeg thing.

This just gets friggin funnier every step of the way. Read on: Westgate City Center says no to Coyotes rallyA group trying to keep the Phoenix Coyotes from moving to Canada will hold a rally Saturday, but it won't be at Westgate City Center near Jobing.com Arena. Westgate, developed by former Coyotes owner Steve Ellman, said Tuesday it's not allowing the rally to occur on its property because its code of conduct forbids allowing activities that could be "political in nature," according to Westgate spokeswoman Nicole Traynor. "We feel strongly the Coyotes will stay and we want to give them every opportunity to succeed," she said. "Our decision not to host the rally at Westgate has nothing to do with our support of the Coyotes. We absolutely love the Coyotes." Organizers of the Save the Coyotes Coalition said Monday the rally would be at Westgate. On Tuesday, organizer Greg Esposito said a 10 a.m. rally will occur at a yet to be determined site near the arena. "Westgate threw a curveball at us at the very last second. We are doing the best we can to relocate it," Esposito said. "But there is no ill will on our side or their side. There was complete miscommunication." Esposito and other fans are working to drum up support for the team, which is in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Team owner Jerry Moyes sought Chapter 11 protection last week and is trying to sell the team to Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie, who wants to move the franchise to Hamilton, Ontario. The National Hockey League, which contends it is in control of the team, is fighting the bankruptcy filing and has claimed Moyes had no right to seek court protection or sell the team. A hearing on who is in control of the team is May 19, in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in downtown Phoenix. www.azcentral.com/sports/coyotes/articles/2009/05/12/20090512biz-coyotesrally0513-CP.htmlCoyotes rally on Saturday gets new locationThe location a Saturday rally as an effort to save the financially troubled Coyotes NHL franchise, put together by the Save the Coyotes Coalition, was changed to the Native New Yorker in Glendale. The originally had picked "Westgate City Center (exact location TBA)" for the rally, but officials from Westgate said Tuesday they would not allow the rally to take place there. "We prematurely stated Westgate City Center as the location for the event. We deeply regret that we did that and we also regret any ill will being direct towards them." Coalition spokesperson Greg Esposito said. "They were nothing but helpful to us and based on the short notice we couldn't work something out. We support Westgate as they support the Phoenix Coyotes. We sincerely apologize for our mistake." Finalized rally details: When: 10 a.m. Saturday. Where: Native New Yorker, 7273 N. 95th Ave. (Next to Cabelas). What to wear: All fans planning to attend should dress in white, similar to the Coyotes "White Outs" of years past. Emcees: Kevin McCabe and Mike Muraco from Calling All Sports on The Fan AM 1060, will be broadcasting live from the event. The Coalition's website can be found at SavetheCoyotes.com. www.azcentral.com/sports/coyotes/articles/2009/05/12/20090512yotesrally.htmlNow they'll have a reason to complain about the low numbers after the event - "miscommunication"

423 1/2.
I just cannot see any "movement" working in Phoenix. If people find it hard enough to drive the 17 minutes to Glendale ( 9 Miles ) in Rush hour to see an NHL Hockey Game, I find it hard to believe anyone there will want to drive there on a Saturday, only to "protest" something that they have no control over! We had 35,000+, Raised Millions, and it did nothing but reiterate to the world that Winnipeg does have the greatest Hockey Fans on the planet!

Well thank you for stepping up to the plate Mr. Steve Ellman. I'm sure all those business's at Westgate appreciates you keeping a bunch of hot and thirsty Coyotes fans away from their restaurants and shops. Mr. Ellman should contemplate what his precious Westgate will be like if the Coyote's leave. My guess is that it will look more like Angkor-Wat. Kinda make me wonder if Ellman received a "bailout" from Mr. B? 9 miles? 17min drive? That's pretty funny Alex. ;D

9 miles? 17min drive? That's pretty funny Alex. ;D Isn't that Correct? According to Mapquest, from Downtown Phoenix to Glendale is 9 Miles? Could be wrong.

Hmm...It may be nine miles from the Capital building located in north central PHX. But since Glendale and Phoenix border each other the distance between the two cities is technically zero. Now for the Coyotes fans that reside in the more "affluent" regions of the Valley, like myself.......lol......that trek is significantly greater. My drive is exactly 51 miles. Okay thats enough BS from me. The 3rd period is 'bout to start. GO DUCKS!! ;D

The location has changed again.....it is now being held at a "express" drive-through Taco Bell location. Also, contrary to popular belief, the Coyotes in question here are the hockey team variety, not the 4 legged, hairy, egg and chicken poaching variety. Attendance is expected to be a fraction of original turnout based on this revelation.

So let me get this straight...
* Winnipeg fans asked to wear white, blow away team marketing department's expectations / Phoenix fans receive free t-shirts to create a staged Whiteout
* Winnipeg fans spontaneously flood Portage and Main in the first ever Save the Jets Rally / Phoenix fans organize a rally ahead of time (and are even initially told no)
* Phoenix tries to create a Whiteout on May 16, 2009 / in Winnipeg on May 16, 2009 it SNOWS!
So there you have it, even God is a Jets fan!

O and I don't know if anyone else posted this, but it seems the Dallas Stars are also headed for bankruptcy. It looks like Bettman's house of cards is falling apart in a hurry. Here's the link: www.thestar.com/sports/article/632760
