www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=277664Jim Balsillie has put in an offer on the Phoenix Coyotes. According to a media release, the Blackberry billionaire's offer of $212.5 million (U.S.) for the team is conditional on the franchise relocating to Southern Ontario. "The current team ownership asked that I table an offer to purchase the Coyotes and significant discussions resulted in an offer that is in the best interests of the franchise, the NHL, and the great hockey fans of Canada and Southern Ontario," Balsillie said in the release. "I am excited to move closer to bringing an NHL franchise to what I believe is one of the best un-served hockey markets in the world, Southern Ontario. A market with devoted hockey fans, a rich hockey history, a growing and diversified economy and a population of more than 7 million people," he said.

Boy, if Chipman has no interest the bargain price tag of this team I doubt he ever will.
Hendrix and the gang will tell us all that his "quiet" approach is working.
yeah looks good so far.....

Balsillie already has a website up to get momentem going for a new team in Southern Ontario. Its pretty basic but here is what it says It's an exciting time for professional hockey in Southern Ontario and it has nothing to do with the playoffs. Jim Balsillie has made an offer to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes and relocate them to Southern Ontario. Jim stated, "I am excited to move closer to bringing an NHL franchise to what I believe is one of the best un-served hockey markets in the world". Read the full release statement here. I would love a team ANYWHERE in Canada EXCEPT southern Ontario.

I'm with Ovi on this one. This is not a case of appeasing the Canadian hockey fan as I truely beleive most Canadians(except the one's in Toronto) would rather see a team here in Winnipeg. Whats also to say that if the team does go to Southern Ontario that after that they would be willing to put a team in Winnipeg as they just gave us one??? This is again all about money and nothing more.
