BETTMAN: 'NHL NO CLOSER TO MOVE TO LAS VEGAS'THE CANADIAN PRESS 4/6/2009 8:08:10 PM LAS VEGAS - NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says the league is no closer to moving a team to Las Vegas, despite shifting its annual awards ceremony to Sin City for the next three years. Bettman said Monday at the Palms Hotel Las Vegas that moving the awards will let the show expand with bigger and better events to celebrate hockey's top players. He hopes Las Vegas' reputation will attract more players, fans and celebrities to the show that honours the best of the best for that season. But Bettman says the biggest barrier to Las Vegas getting its own sports team is building a new arena, which he believes would be difficult to finance now. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman believes that the NHL and NBA are the leagues most likely to put teams there. www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=274028

Blast I was going to post this!
It seems that theres no suitable venue for a team there which is obviously a good thing. I remember on hockey night in canada they were discussing the possibility of vegas getting a team and one panel member said "No way and its an outrage if the NHL goes there before Winnipeg" or something along those lines.

I can't believe that the NHL isn't going back to it's roots in Nevada. Come on, everyone goes to Las Vegas to see a hockey game!! What else is there to do, other than the bunny ranch.

Las Vegas would be a great NHL city, they love sports, and are big hockey fans. The WRANGLERS attract 6,000-8,000 to a game.

Head over to wikipedia and look at Sports in Las Vegas, head down to previous professional teams, the city can't hold ANY team besides the 51's for a long period of time.
