Father & son to play in Muskegon Lumberjacks game MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) — Sergei Kharin plans to come out of retirement for one night to play alongside his son Anton Kharin next week for the International Hockey League's Muskegon Lumberjacks. They're expected to take the ice Friday when the Lumberjacks play the Flint Generals in Muskegon. The 46-year-old Sergei Kharin played with Muskegon from 1996 to 2001, when the team was called the Fury. At the time, the league was known as the Colonial Hockey League and the United Hockey League. Sergei Kharin was drafted in the 12th round of the 1989 NHL draft by the Winnipeg Jets. He ranks fifth on Muskegon's career scoring list with 349 points from 104 goals and 245 assists in 288 games. Sergei Kharin wore No. 16 for the Fury, the same number his 23-year-old son wears for the Lumberjacks. www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/2009-04-04-2437435760_x.htm

I wonder why he only played 7 Games for the Jets? 2 Goals in his first 7 Games sounded promising.. 1990-91 Winnipeg Jets 7(GP) 2(G) 3(A) 5(Pts) 2(Pim) Are You Sure This Ain't Gretzky?

Interesting...I actually remember that guy in a Jets uniform and I think he was pretty good...must have been reasonably good or really bad for me to remember him at all. Yeah, based on 7 games, 5 points and +2, and apparently a good minor league career, you wonder why he never got another chance. Could be that John Paddock didn't like him, just like he didn't like Kris Draper or Stu Barnes.
He was traded to the Nords so it could be that he was too far down the depth chart of that team. I think players are sometimes unfairly stigmatized as not good enough after too many years in the AHL.

I remember Kharin and I was thinking the exact same thing. He showed promise for the Jets at the end of the 1990-91 season. I also believe he was the first player to put on a Jets uniform from the former Soviet Union.
