OK, before you read this, I want you to take a deep breath and make sure you have a pail of some sort nearby...
Ready? Here's the front page of the Phoenix Coyotes Booster Club newsletter:
A Word (or two) From Our President….
Happy New Year!!Hopefully you all had a safe and happy holiday season and are looking forward to 2009!This is a big year for the Coyotes. We started the year in a playoff spot, which if we can continue will put us in the playoffs for the first time since 2001! If you haven’t experienced a Phoenix Whiteout, I can tell you it is something to see. The whole arena dressed in white, cheering at the top of their voices for our boys…Hopefully we will all get to experience it this year, and for many years to come.
Most of you have probably heard all of the doom and gloom reports that the Coyotes are bankrupt and are leaving the valley. Most of the reports come from the Canadian media, and there is a LOT of speculation going on.Here are some of the facts about the situation
•The situation is serious. The team has been losing money since it came to town in 1996-97. In this economy, no one can afford to LOSE money anymore, so the team is looking for financial help.
•The NHL is involved. Just like in Pittsburgh, Ottawa and Nashville in recent years, the NHL is helping the team with the timing of revenue sharing payments due the team.
•We are looking for investors. The NHL is also helping to find investors who might want to invest in this franchise.
•The team is working with the City. So much has changed since the original deal was done with the City of Glendale, talks are ongoing to ensure the arrangements are the best for everyone.
•The team is not going anywhere. The situation is serious, but the team is asking fans to be patient. Just like we have been while they rebuild the team with young talent, we have to be patient while they resolve these financial issues.
What can we do to help? We all want to be sure that the team stays put for decades to come. The best thing you can do is choose the Coyotes for your entertainment dollars!Buy more tickets! Take advantage of the great deals and come togames you hadn’t planned on. The guys are playing so well at home! Bring friends! We all know that the best way to get more hockeyfans is to bring them to a game. How many of you got hooked because you saw just one game live? I did!! Buy concessions! Every little bit helps, and the team gets a percentage of the concession sales. Buy merchandise! Not only will the money help the team, but you’ll be showing your team spirit every time you wear it out.
So don’t let the hockey media scare you. While the Coyotes are in trouble, they are doing everything they can to correct the problem with minimal impact to the team on the ice and the fan experience at the games. We are going to be HOWLING for ourYotes for years to come

I've sat in a room with four other people. I believe that's the equivalent of experiencing a "Phoenix Whiteout".
