Here's how the Arizona Republic has reported on the Yotes game in Winnipeg. More importantly, look at the comments attached to the story. Yotes have Winnipeg preseason dateThe Coyotes will play the Flames at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Sept. 24 in a preseason game. It will be the Coyotes' third visit to Winnipeg since moving to Phoenix in 1996. The Coyotes played the Toronto Maple Leafs in a preseason game at the MTS Centre last year. The Coyotes plan to release the rest of the preseason schedule at a later date.

No here's a joke of a story that should get a few laughs. I think Jeff Shumway went to the same spin-school as Gary Bettman. Coyotes' financial picture improved16 comments Jun. 4, 2008 09:52 PM The Arizona Republic The Coyotes, who lost about $30 million two seasons ago, showed an improvement of about 20 percent in 2007-08, according to Chief Executive Officer Jeff Shumway. The better financials were attributed to several factors, he said Wednesday. Those included a rise in corporate sales and advertising, cutting expenses, a more efficient operation and the savings associated with not operating the Arizona Sting indoor lacrosse franchise. Speculation has swirled the past couple of seasons that the Coyotes might be sold, and Shumway said that although there has been a handful of interested buyers, "We really have not looked at selling the franchise." The Coyotes signed a 30-year lease with the city of Glendale, and there is a sliding penalty scale should they break that agreement. If they would leave at this point, for example, the penalty would be $750 million. The city of Glendale invested $180 million when the team moved from Phoenix. The Coyotes played their first game at Jobing.com Arena on Dec. 27, 2003. www.azcentral.com/sports/coyotes/articles/2008/06/04/20080604coyotes0605.html
The escape fee will be enough to scare anyone off - I wonder how they'll get around that and if bankruptcy is a possible route around it. This newspaper is far too kind to the Yotes. They never print anything even remotely perceived as negative to the Yotes. I wonder about the connection to the team and the paper.

Wow, so they lost $30 Million two years ago and only lost $24 Million (20% less) in 07/08. Wow, that is fantastic!

With the Sonics now in Oklahoma that removed one potential location and added another. (Seattle has always been on the radar but now that the NBA is gone they may want in more than ever.) Interesting stuff to follow but we can probably all agree that the Coyotes won't be in the dessert for long.

Interesting stuff to follow but we can probably all agree that the Coyotes won't be in the dessert for long. Pfft, like you really know the Coyotes are leaving Phoenix. Please. Everyone can paint all the gloom and doom they want, but there is no way that bitterness that comes from people in Winnipeg or anywhere else that hates the fact the team is in Arizona isn't going to change where they are. Then when there is something good that comes out of Phoenix, you guys dismiss it as just a joke. When the Coyotes are actually doing well both on the ice and financially, we'll see what words are uttered next. If the Coyotes go bankrupt, then they wouldn't be the only team. Others that would be in the same position or worse would give them company. Bottom line is, if Winnipeg gets an expansion team, then you can stop your constant fixation on the Coyotes. Think future, not past. I was able to do that with the North Stars, you can with the Coyotes soon enough.

Moderators: Could we have all these "team watches" stuck to the first page again please? It keeps all related team content together making for an easier way to refer back to later. Thanks! Chris ~~~ Sekeres: Something to howl about Matthew Sekeres, 07/11/08 at 10:53 PM EST www.theglobeandmail.com/blogs/hockeyblogIf you were looking for reasons why the Phoenix Coyotes lose in excess of $20 million U.S. annually, they were sitting there on press row – all the way down press row. The Coyotes had 28 credential holders, none of them independent media outlets – at GM Place for a 1-0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. Phoenix is known as one of the NHL's largest travelling parties, and Team Arizona arrived with enough followers to get John McCain elected. The happy brigade was shoehorned into three seating areas of the press box, including a long snake down the front row where newspaper writers normally sit. Alas, there were no newspaper writers in this group. The two Phoenix dailies did not join the caravan to Calgary and Vancouver.Instead, Operation Desert Storm included assistant coaches, executives, minority owners, a security detail and a community relations staffer, who was presumably redefining the meaning of “outreach program.” Sadly, the assistant to the travelling secretary's assistant couldn't make it. It seemed nothing, including the scoreboard, added up with the Coyotes on this night. One official was overheard telling another that “next goal wins”… in a game Phoenix trailed 1-0. All of it seemed funny, if not for the fact that the Coyotes are NHL have-nots, siphoning money from Canada's six profitable franchises. In that sense, Canadian ticket-buyers were funding this excursion.
Now there's something to howl about.Chris

So, just when you think Phoenix couldn't sell their tickets any cheaper, they come out with this offer:
The Coyotes will hold a 72-Hour Black Friday Blizzard Sale online at www.phoenixcoyotes.com beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
Fans can purchase tickets at up to 40 percent off to select home games, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota Wild and New York Islanders.[/i] [/color]

Got Bankrupt? OK, I'll buy the 4 tickets at center ice lower bowl, but I won't pay $85 I'll pay $115each I'll pay for the hot dogs and drinks and the autographed puck and the toque (visor isn't much good to me) but here's the catch. . . you'll have to play the game at the MTSC. Anyone agree with me? Chris

My question is; How the hell do the few current season ticket holders feel about this garbage? I'd be quite ticked off, which would lead me to NOT renew again next year. It's almost like they have this team set on self distruct for a reason! Makes you wonder......
