Mired in an 0-4 start, the struggling Winnipeg Blue Bombers will go with quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie as their starter when the defending East Division champions host the Calgary Stampeders on Thursday night.
Dinwiddie will be making his second career CFL start, with his only other appearance in last year's Grey Cup.
The 27-year-old started last year's Grey Cup final after Kevin Glenn broke his arm in the East Division final. Dinwiddie threw one touchdown and three interceptions in a 23-19 loss to Saskatchewan. Including the playoffs, The Boise State product has completed 67 of 118 passes for two touchdowns and eight interceptions since joining the Bombers in 2006.
"The first time I had a full game, I got to get used to it and manage it," he explained to TSN's Off the Record on Monday. "You've just got to be efficient with the football."
Dinwiddie will once again replace Glenn, who has a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 2-8 in four games this season. "Kevin has been pretty good throughout this thing," said Dinwiddie. "We just got to come here and play well. He's a good guy and is willing to help."
The change at quarterback is one of many moves the Blue Bombers will make as they prepare to take on Calgary.
On the injury front, linebacker Barrin Simpson will be placed on the 9-game IR list and is likely out for the year. He will have surgery to repair the torn pectoral muscle he suffered in the game against B.C and may be back for playoffs. Joe Lobedahn takes his spot as the middle linebacker.
Defensive back Ike Charlton and lineman Kyle Koch are also questionable. Slotback Milt Stegall, who is still recovering from off-season knee surgery, is doubtful.
Bombers head coach Doug Berry plans to play defensive back Kelly Malveaux as outside linebacker, with Joe Lobendahn replacing Simpson down the middle and Matt O'Meara playing at right guard.

its gonna take more than dinwiddie to turn this thing around. noticed that stegall is doubtful. he's as good as finished now. bombers need to make a trade or two. get bishop in here.

I'm kind of tired of everyone saying the crappy season is Glen's fault. He hasnt played his best but remember, he's had to recover physically and mentally from his injury last season in the Western final, his offensive line is giving him no protection and his recievers arent getting open or catching balls. Charles Roberts is doing okay but needs to step it up a bit. Overall the team is misfiring on preety much every cylinder. We can at least take pride in the fact that we should have won last game, bc's coach himself admitted pass interference should have been called so the game would have changed drastically.

The Definition of "Pass Interference" could be the video of last weeks play against B.C Lions! How that wasn't called makes me wonder.......

how can roberts "step it up a bit" if he isnt getting the ball. Kevin Glenn is just showing what he really is. mediocre at best. he had a career year last year, a fluke. but your right, it isnt all on him. the coaching staff needs to be accountable as well.

Roberts isnt getting the ball for 2 reasons, 1) He's playing poorly I think his longest run has been 13 yards and 2) I think Glenn has been reluctant to give it to him after last years game when he have it to him and his arm was broken, I mean I think mentally he's lacking confidence in roberts.
What alot of people doint realize is that for any quarterback to be succsefull the entire team needs to be succseesfull and as I previously said the recievers arent getting open or catching enough, charlie isnt blocking well enough or running well enough and the line isnt giving glenn anything. I think the only possible advantage of starting dinwiddie is that roberts will get the ball alot more and should have a chance to find his game.

Oooor, the Bombers just stink and exceeded expectation last year...........

He's not getting the ball because the Bombers are seemingly always down by 21 after the first quarter. You just can't run the ball nearly as much when that's the case. That having been said, the entire offence is having a Go Jets Go season so far. It's not just one player that needs to turn it around, it's all of them

lol...why do you have such doubt after a great game?
Glenn showed greatness last year..until he put a second knee brace on and then broke his arm. He hasn't been the same since. Yes it's not all his fault, but he hasn't been himself for a while. When your team is sliding and your QB can't make more then a few first downs each game, something is wrong.
Chuck is having an off year, I'd say mostly to the OLine injuries, and lack of creative ways getting him the ball. Charles is getting the ball, its just always first down right up the gut, everyone knows we were doing that. (Which is why Glenn wasn't successful this season as everyone knows we run the quick 5 yard passes)
Basically the play calling is far to vanilla and the Oline injuries dont help QB's or RB's...that being said the Oline played great allowing no sacks, and Dinwiddie aired it out like a mofo with confidence and precision (see last TD perfectly placed).

He played great last game and I say let him keep playing as long as he doesn't start to slip...

yep, keep playing him. as for Glenn, i dont believe he was ever our answer. he had a career year last season and that was it, all it ever was. trade him for bishop....if we can.

I'd say the receivers made Dinwiddie look good last game. They actually made an effort to get open or fight to catch the ball. A good chuck of those throws looked like lame ducks to me.
I also think Calgary's secondary was caught off guard that Dinwiddie was throwing somewhat accurate, plus the Winnipeg's offense actually had a desire to win.
Other than that, Dinwiddie's attitude and will to win made the difference on the team as a whole. Plus the defense's had something to prove.
I hope it continues into Toronto. Argo's are coming off a loss, so it'll be an intense game. I'm hoping Dinwiddie is the real deal this year, or else it'll be back to having no hope for the rest of the season.
