This from CJOB today...
Polo Park Retail Development Could Subsidize a Point Douglas Stadium CJOB's John Copsey reporting 6/24/2008
Mayor Sam Katz has indicated the possibility exists that retail development of the current stadium site in Polo Park could subsidize a new stadium located in Point Douglas. Katz tells CJOB it's a matter being discussed by the negotiating parties, adding "someone has to do a development to subsidize the football stadium... otherwise, it just doesn't work." The original stadium proposal called for redevelopment of the current Polo Park site with a retail component, on property that Katz concedes is unquestionably of more retail value than in Point Douglas.

What I don't understand is if the property around Polo Park is so valuable, then why is the arena site still gravel and mud?

Yeeeah, kinda like that empty land at the corner of Grant and Waverley that used to be a gas station and the tanks leaked into the ground! It's cursed, right?
