Do you feel sorry that he's coaching the Manitoba Moose, even though it is obviously his choice to? ...

Okay the president of the mark chipman fan club rears his head once again...
Carlyle has no NHL club to work for right now so joining a moose organization that has no canucks whims to worry about is a safe job for a year or however long the lockout lasts. He also lives in the city and has been a resident for over 20 years so it is an easy choice to make on his part even if the team is poorly run and he doesn't have the control over the team he would have elsewhere.
The canucks never wanted him in the first place and wanted Smyl for years, this is what kept us from being stuck with vancouver years before it happened. (Notice Randy lasted one season of the canucks/moose arrangement before leaving.)
That said, this is a job between jobs for Carlyle and will do little to hurt or help him. It must hurt to see your team quit on you when it counts though...

Did Carlyle voluntarily *leave* the Washington Capitals to come to Winnipeg...?
If that's the case, he looks like a genius right now. He'd be unemployed if he had stayed in Washington.
But Carlyle returned to Winnipeg for the same reason why Thomas Steen lives here - in what other city could he be treated like a hero...? He's here because he's treated very well. 'Peggers will always consider Carlyle a hero. That's why he returns here.

Carlyle is here to stay, plus maybe he is anticipating a job with the Jets, so he'd figure he should be coaching here to stay warm for the job;)

I was thinking along the lines of Carlyle coaching the next Jets with Serge Savard or Brian Burke as GM.
