Here's one for wpgisAHL,
I don't know if anyone has heard the radio ads from the Manitoba Stage Hands Union but they are quite the eye opener. It appears that our "community-oriented" and "Winnipeg First" owner of the MTSC decided to lock the stage hands union out of the MTSC and import a company from Vancouver to do the work for the same money. The Union in Winnipeg offered the same amount of money package to chipman that they had at the old arena and the same bid that the Vancouver group offered but chipman went with outsiders instead. Not a very pro-Winnipeg decision or a very community oriented decision if you ask me.
Before you chipman supporters jump on me asking for documented proof, my boss's brother is in the union and is one of the guys who got screwed over by chipman here. He gave me even more good inside info that even the radio spots don't give.
Our taxes paid $40 million into the MTSC and they turn around and hire outsiders for all stage work in the building. Real community oriented.
It is bad enough that false north has been lowballing the ticket buying public from the get go, (the Hillary Duff concert fiasco coming very readily to mind,) the utter lack of regard for anyone in terms of what the fans want and now lowballing local workers. We all knew chipman's loyalty was to vancouver and not Winnipeg but this shows that this applies to more than just hockey.
It almost makes one long for WEC, think about that statement...

Oh no, so Chipman's not perfect. I'd be curious to hear Chipman's response, what his reason is. Just because you'e close to one side doesn't mean you're privy to any more info from the decision-making side than anyone else here is. Let me know when you talk to Chipman and True North to ask for the real reasons, mmmkay?
Where would we be without Chipman? Without an AHL team, stuck with no regular tenant for the Winnipeg Arena and no reason at all to build an NHL quality building.

I guess chipman can do no wrong in your eyes.
Screwing over a union that has served the province well for decades for a vancouver company for the exact same money is inexcusable and proof that chipman has no love or loyalty to this city. He is not a Winnipegger as far as I am concerned.

You should read "Neither Here Nor There" written by the band The Melvins. They have had tons of bad experiences with stage hand unions, like them threatening to cancel the show if they didn't get donuts and three one-hour breaks!
There's always two-sides of these tales.

Did this happen in Winnipeg? If it did then it was the first time because I have yet to hear a bad thing about the local union or the quality of their work. No promoter, act or venue boss has EVER had a problem with the stage hands union for the last several decades but chipman and donnelly immediately go to scab labour before the ink is even dry on their contract with the MSTC. The fact that chipman has also been lowballing his own employees over their TIPS is very indicative of how chipman treats his staff and that is just plain petty. Kinda like how he treated the stagehands union. So far everyone has been lowballed by false north and within months of the arena's opening they have a bad reputation in this city. This is eventually going to have very serious repercussions to the city's rep as well.

The Stagehand union was dealing with Kevin Donnelly, not Mark Chipman. Donnelly runs the operations of the MTSC. Now whether or not Chipman said anything to Donnelly is between them, cause I wasn't in the room. But the head of the Union is my gf's prof, and he told her it was Donnelly, that was the problem.
I'm not proclaiming these guys to be saints, and I don't agree with everything they do, but locking the stage hands union out doesn't mean they are preventing the Jets from returning.
