MONTREAL—A Montreal man died of a heart attack after rushing to support his 15-year-old son, who had just been spat on at a minor league hockey game.
"He was talking to his son to give him some encouragement," spectator Michel Gaudreau told Montreal La Presse. "He was holding his hands, he sat down and then he collapsed."
Gaudreau, whose son was playing in the game, said ambulance technicians spent about 30 minutes trying to revive the man.
As well as spitting at the boy, some parents had thrown objects at him. The parents were apparently reacting to what one coach called a bad penalty call.
The game later resumed. Gaudreau said his son told him the coach had made it clear the team could be fined and barred from the playoffs if the game did not continue.
Eric Richard, who refereed the game, told La Presse he had been ordered by Hockey Quebec not to comment.
Alain Pelloquin of the Montreal North Minor Hockey League told Global television the game went on with the agreement of both coaches.
"The referee spoke to both coaches and asked their opinion," he said. "Both said their players wanted to continue."
The game could have stopped with no repercussions from the league, said Hockey Quebec spokesperson Richard Trottier.

Its not directly related to how the father died, but still.. he was there to support his son.
