Well, the CFL salary cap is a joke. I say this because I just heard that the commish of the CFL and the BC Lions owner say that the 2.6 million dollar cap is actually a floor. A target for teams to hit. Then there is a ceiling after that for which the teams should stay between the floor and the ceiling. Hmm. Makes me think that those teams that can't spend 2.6 end up where? Hmm below the floor would be.
The basement,cellar, last place.
It's just sad. Here we are talking about how much we want the Jets back and that now when NHL salaries are at an all time high, we need control to bring our beloved team back when right from under us we could be losing another pro team in the Blue Bombers simply because the rich private owners don't want to play fair.
I thought Wright was onto something when I heard the job he was doing with the league. Seems to me it was a lot of smoke and mirrors and the CFL could be collapsing as we speak. CFL CBA ends after the 2005 season. Could we see yet another lockout/strike?
I want my Jets back, but I would be devistated if my Blue Bombers left town. Winnipeg loves hockey and Winnipeg loves football. Well, I love both sports.

I dont think you need to worry about the Bombers...
They are planning on a new Stadium, and Asper is on the BOG.

The 2.6million is the min a team can spend. So you can spend as much as you want. There is no cap in the CFL anymore according to what the commisioner said on tsn.

Wright does say there is a cap(ceiling he says) but didn't mention what that ceiling was. Interesting. I think someone's on their way out sooner than later if the CFL has work stoppage next year.
Sports Apocolypse in the next 5 years. NFL and MLB could be next.

The NHL while not the biggest and most popular sport in North America can have a big impact on the sports world.
If the players win or there is a higher cap than the owners can afford, it spells out to the other leagues that they should be able to do the same thing. Other players associations will want more pay more this and more that. This could halt the sports world in North America to a stand still.
I believe this is far off but part of me thinks that if the NHL doesn't work its problems out, there could be something huge taking place with all the leagues.

MLB? Come on. Many teams in the league have 80 home games. That's big money for each game too. Trust me, only failing teams like the Jay, Expos, etc have problems. Some other teams do too I guess but for the most part, the attendance pays for the players and the sponsors pay for the owners profits. I just wish there was a hard cap in the MLB. There is no reason the Yankees should just buy the championship every year.

Well, they spend that much money and they haven't won it since 2000... I dunno how far they went in each season, I think they made it to the finals in '01, but I'm not sure about the rest...

I believe the current cap is roughly $2.6 million. They should top it off at $3 million, and then STRICTLY enforce it. Teams such as Winnipeg and Saskatchewan, being privately owned, have a difficult time competing dollar wise with Edmonton, B.C, Toronto and now Calgary, to sign proven All-Star players.
BUT....all these signings do NOT guarantee that the team will be a contender, or better than Sask. and Wpg. Chemistry plays a part, and the pride, intelligence and hardwork of the players are intangible qualities that go a long long way as well.
I think the best way to help our team, is to show up in droves, and sell out the Stadium. Buy tons of Blue Bomber merchandise, and these two factors would control how much money is in the piggy bank every year, when we look to re-sign key players, or bid on high priced guys as well.
