I can't say this with a 100% certantity, however I have heard this from a pretty reliable source so I do believe it to be true untill it can be proven so otherwise.
If an AHL team draws x number of fans over the league average they lose out on Revenue Sharing, or get a lower percentage of it.
Therefore if opening the upper deck brings in an extra 2,000 fans and they make an extra y ammount. y would have to be greater then the money they'd loose from the revenue sharing, which it wouldn't be.
So if you think it comes down to creating a demand for tickets and just that, it's probable that isn't the case... Like everything in sports these days it comes down to dollars and cents and what is more profitable.
If this is the case, I commend the Moose for doing something that may be unpopular to some fans, but shows that they are managed properly and want to make money.
If the Jets had been managed in this method they'd probably still be here.

i think they have the upper deck curtained off solely because they can't fill them, but the revenue sharing idea is an interest concept that i hadn't heard before.

interesting. i dont know much bout how the jets where managed, so what do u say should have been changed by the jets managment? just about everything. the jets were so poorly managed. everything from team management, our arena, wec, and the list goes on and on for a long time.

WEC was a big factor, it made it almost impossible for the Jets to make money, but mainly they just didn't do smart things when it came down to it. Spent money on the wrong things that ended up in a negative profit.
If you know you are in a small market you know revenue is gonna be tight so you have to watch every penny spent and ensure that you will see atleast an even return on that investment.
As for the source that I heard it from it was from someone within the Moose orginaztion, but that's as much out of me as you are getting on that.

The upper decks will be open for the playoffs though. I dont think they can use playoff attendance to screw them from revenue sharing threwout the league.

The Moose won't sellout the building in the playoffs unless the get to the Calder Cup Final. Expect 8,500 for the first round, 10,000 for the second, and 11,500 for the COnference Finals.
