I couldn't tell you, beacause I only have EA..and I usually get EA. But, it is a pretty good game...some things I wish were in it and could have been done better, but its still a solid game.

EA took a huge step back in this game. The game play sucks because you get hit too much. I amass about 60 hits a game.. hardly realistic, and furthermore the hitting resembles that of NHL 98. Also in franchise mode they make stupid trades that turn me off to playing the game. Brodeur for Khabibulin, then Brodeur for Marc Denis... wtf man!? I went with NHL 2K5 this year, best decision I made.. go out and buy MVP Baseball 2005 on Thrusday.. $45 so it's a sweet deal! ;D

NHL 2k5 hands down. I fuckin' LOVE the historic teams... unlocking teams like the '92 Penguins, '93 Jets, '81 North Stars, '61 Blackhawks and being able to manually edit their names (to get around the licensing restriction) and have the announcers announce their names and talk about them with stats... it's just incredible. Plus there are just hoardes of jerseys, logos and even the Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Arena. It's a game that captures the history of the game well.
The gameplay is easy to pick up on, easy to master, and it's a solid game. There is one really nasty bug in the season / franchise mode, meaning you either have to manually control your lines the whole season or turn off all injuries. This bug aside it's the best $15 I have ever spent on a hockey game ( I only spent $5 on Blades of Steel for NES... still the greatest )

The thing I dont like about EA is on easy you kill teams sometimes, and the scores are redicoulous...and on medium, its a challenge but I can still win...but the scores are usually pretty low. Maybe its just cause I suck haha, but I would like to have it so you can have some pretty high scoring games on med. but not like you have on easy, where its just..easy. Anyways, its still pretty fun. Some features and settings they messed up on, and theres no create a player..I also wish you could use create a team in dynasty mode, but oh well...still pretty fun game overall

i bought EA's NHL 2005 for xbox....and played not stop on diffilcult and would get killed 15-3 every game...my old roomate has the same game for PS2...and on the same diffilculty level he wins 15-3 all the time against the top teams with a crappy team...
well i swear and whip the controller around...screaming the game is fixed...and the computer is cheating (i'm 25 btw ;D)....so me and my roomate had a game on both systems...on xbox i beat him 7-5...and on ps2 he beat me in overtime.......well now...the xbox version blows...

Hey Nik, what's this bug you speak of? I've never heard about it! Sometimes while playing franchise mode the game will freeze. It's a pain in the Go Jets Go!

Sometimes while playing franchise mode the game will freeze. It's a pain in the Go Jets Go! Which is due to the computer (on automatic line edits) putting people in your lines as necessary upon an injury. The problem is that they don't keep track of the lines well, and eventually it puts too few, too many, or other crazy Go Jets Go on your lines. Then the game freezes when it can't understand what the automatic line editor is telling it.

I am sorry boys, but after playing both on Remy's Xbox, the EA one takes the cake as usual. EA Sports games always win in my books, and they proved it again for me. I had the EA version on my computer, and loved it, but playing on a keyboard is kinda crappy. So i rented the EA version for my PS2 and i thought it was amazing. Game play is awesome, they have that new open ice thing (that i didn't figure out how to use) and i just think it rocks, announcers are way better than the other games.
The sega games just don't do it for me. NFL madden football (EA) is always 1 million times better than the other ones.
My complaint about the EA sports game is the removal of the create your own player feature. brutal. But besides that, i think EA is many strides ahead of all the other companies.

Sorry "Stone Cold"... I look up to you and practically worship you, but ESPN NHL 2K4 and NHL 2K5 for Xbox won't be topped anytime soon.
I've actually played NHL 2005 on PS2 and found it very "choppy" and unrealistic. It's the kind of game where you can just mash the buttons and probably score goals.
Sega's game has way more options... more game modes (All-Star, Skills, Outdoor rinks, air hockey, etc., etc.) and the 1993 Winnipeg Jets...

...that was a little bit "out there", buddy.
On topic, ESPN NHL2K5 is better. EA's game was nothing but cheap hits and cheap goals. ESPN is just...so much better..the goals, the teams, the unlockables. And air hockey! How could you go wrong?

Seriously, I would buy a hockey video game of ALL heritage teams... that alone makes ESPN's nhl 2k5 worth the very modest price tag.

ESPN rocks. I'm in a season with Minnesota right now and it's tons of fun. The hard modes are (get this) ACTUALLY hard!!! EA you still amass 50 shots to 5 but they win 2-0. So dumb... anyways it's almost allstar break and i'm fighting for 8th in the West. I traded Roloson cause I don't like him and I got Thibault. I also traded Josh Harding for Simon Lajeunnesse, a 2nd round draft pick and a defenceman who's name I can't recall. I love keeping track of my minor league system, that's why I give ESPN the green light over EA.. that and EA blows Go Jets Go this year

I have been debating which game to pick up for the X Box. I have always played EA but have herd many horrible things about it this year. I was told the franchise mode in 2K5 is way better then EA and that will make the difference for me.

If is man. I love being able to follow my farm team and see their actual stats. For like $30 you can't go wrong. Go with EA in 06 though, I've been hearing that game will be the god of all hockey games.

I would say EA but hockey games for computer right threw PS2, Xbox, and gamecube still have along way to go. The graphics are nearly as good as they should be and the players are still way to choopy when the skate.
