Who here is a Moose fan? I am untill at least the call ups start or the Moose start losing. Right now they are like 3rd overall in the AHL. But they are starting to slide. Now that the NHL season is over they should look into signing an NHL calibre player. like Teemu Selanne. But I hear next season AHL teams will be able to sign any player.

im not a moose fan but i dont mind watching the games. the only thing that really pisses me off is the atmosphere. it ruins it. when they packed the place for opening night, there was a great atmosphere in the building. i actually found myself getting really into the game. since then, they curtain off the balconies and the atmosphere is non existant. the last game i went to(lord stanley was there), i just about went crazy. i was in a section filled with 4-7yr old kids who had no interest in being at a hockey game. i would go to a lot more games if there was a better atmosphere at the games. the quality of hockey is pretty good with a lot of nhl calibre players playing and no call ups. plus they are one of the best teams in the league but yet it does not get me to want to go.

I agree. It's the atmosphere. it just sucks. there's nothing like being at a hockey game with 15,000 screaming fans watching every move on the ice and cheering every check. but at moose games most people just talk amongst themselves and politely clap if the Moose score a goal.

I don't blame the Moose for having a lousy atmosphere.
It's minor-league hockey. It's FARM TEAM hockey.
People - we're watching the Vancouver Canucks prospects!
The atmosphere sucks in all 30 AHL rinks, I have no doubts of that.
And I hate the all the screaming little brats too.

I'm a Moose fan.. But after going on a road trip to watch WHL hockey, I've deduced something. WHL = Amazing, AHL = God awful and boring. I love the CHL. Why? Because these kids actually TRY! They hit, they fight and by gum they score. Much more exciting than a Moose game. Also, the fans actually care about their hockey more than Moose fans. *Rah rah, go Moose! That sure was a swell goal* Gimmie a break, you should be screaming until your mouth spews blood. I'm tired of the AHL and am considering boycotting as I am tired of seeing 2-1 borefests where no one really cares who wins cause they get paid all the same.

I follow the AHL somewhat, what I mean I watch for the prospects. Its nice to see for once no call-ups, and there is actually some team chemistry and they the moose are actually winning there share of games. But once NHL is up and running again most Winnipegers will again stop caring about the Moose thus means no more curtained off sellouts, avg attendence will probably drop to the 4,500 range.
Personally I would like to see the NHL adopt a rule that stipulates every prospect must be assigned to the Minors for two straight years with no callups.
Personally I find the overall game and atmosphere lacking but that goes without saying its the AHL. And the game isn't mass marketed like the NHL, so not everyone knows the players and teams.
On a side note, aside from having the Moose I would like to see us having a WHL or OHL (winnipeg is central not western so why not, travel is probably alot better in the OHL) team in a few years time. Until then lets leave the moose enjoy there success and honeymoon.
And one more thing what will happen to the Moose if the NHL decides next year there will be no season and all its parent franchises decide to cut cost by folding its affiliations indefinately with the AHL. I guess that is something we only need to worry when we get there.

That way we'd have something to look forward to, watching and enjoy said player doing well instead of worrying about his callup. Once Kesler gets called up I have absolutely no reason to care for the Moose.

Until then lets leave the moose enjoy there success and honeymoon. The nearest OHL city to Winnipeg is Sault Ste. Marie, approx 20 hours on the bus. Compare that with Brandon (2 hours), Regina (7), Saskatoon (9), Moose Jaw (8), Swift Current (10), Calgary (13), Edmonton (15), Red Deer (14), Prince Albert (10), Medicine Hat (11), and Lethbridge (13). It would make no sense to put Winnipeg in the OHL.

Well you know also seeing as we're not in Ontario... that kinda defeats the purpose of playing in the Ontario Hockey League. Whatever, the WHL would be fine. If Brandon can do it so can we.

Yes there are 3 american teams in the OHL but they're underneath the province of Ontario and in much closer range than Winnipeg would be.

There are three American teams in the OHL. The three American teams, correct me if I am wrong, are all in Michigan, a few miles from the border. Travel would be no problem for these clubs. The OHL won't even grant Thunder bay a franchise because of the relatively distant location to other OHL teams. What makes you think Winnipeg, a city 11 hours away from TB, would recieve an OHL franchise?
