O.K. It's been way too long since this had a new thread, cripes it hasn't even had a post.
Anyways, anybody out there in the publishing field?? What kinda money is there to be made out of a magazine?? Could the owners put out a monthly "program" of sorts? Lots of articles on players, there background, schools, youth programs they started the game at, etc. Plus the other basic hockey magazine stuff.
It could have a kids section, where Don Cherry could write an article each month stressing his thoughts on the game.
To subscribe you could either become a Jet Club member(a whole other post) or just subscribe to it. Have it on all the local magazine racks, and so on.
Anyway, just a thought.

Threaten to have the team leave the city on an annual basis - get the piggy banks from the kids and the cheques from the parents. Publish pix of crying children on the cover of the Sun and mention that if, oh say, $15 million isn't raised then Bettman will "Call Home" the franchise.
It worked for some televangelist back in the '80's!

I like your idea, I don't know if it would last over the long haul, but it might get off the ground at the start!

After perusing these boards for a few days now I think maybe one of the reasons there haven't been any posts here lately is because the best possible idea has already been offered: BREW PUB!!! Or microbrewery anyways...
I was in Winnipeg last autumn and was amazed at the lack of good local beer. Even Regina and Saskatoon have some really excellent local brews these days!!! Here in Québec the microbrewers abound and are very successful.
So imagine... The owners of the team hire some brew masters (there is a school for it in Chicago - believe it or not!) to develop a beer suited to the tastes of Winnipegers. There could be multiple choices; pale ale, dark, lager, pilsner, porter, stout, all under the name - "Jet Fuel" (saw that in another post - great idea guys!) There could be a pub IN the MTS centre - as well as affiliated pubs at the Forks and any other suitable spots in the city - preferably downtown for before and after game activities. It could also be sold in bottles for people who watch the games at home or any other bar and pub in the city.
Hell, with some decent advertising and a really good beer, the Jets could pull in as much money on a hot summer as they do when they would actually be playing!
The more I think about it the more excited I get... Perhaps by starting with the beer we could earn the money to bring them back... Darren if you want to get in touch with me...
And if I come up with any other ideas I'll post back... :-)
Imagine the history books... "Winnipeg Jets brought back to life by Beer".

I'd drink it even if it tasted like horse piss.
We'd have to charge more than our Minhas Creek or whatever the hell it is...
p.s. Winnipeg does have good local breweries....what about Fort Gary Brewing?

I visited the King's Head, some Irish pub downtown (in a basement), the new hotel at the Forks, a pub on Portage avenue in St James, and asked all my friends and relatives... The ONLY microbrew that I found was Fort Garry. Not a terrible beer by any means, the dark was quite nice, but not exportable with all the other micros out there these days. But I digress... But in all seriousness, I think this would be a fantastic way to get things really rolling. Last winter I was out having a pint at one of my fav local brew pubs and I met a gentleman from Chicago who runs the afore mentioned brew school. I think I will get in touch and ask a few questions. He leads the life... travelling around "researching" beer and brewpubs.
cheers, macitect

Agassiz Brewing Co. didn't make it as far as I know. I think they filed for bankruptcy protection in late 2001 or early 2002. Too bad though, I really liked their Catfish Cream Ale. Refreshingly light for a cream ale with less than average but good head. Point being that a microbrewery isn't a license to print money. Too bad though, I would have loved to been in the quality control department.
Oh well, back to the Minhas.

We had "River City Brewing Co." for a few years, but it had to fold up & recycle all their equipment. For one reason or another, most people in this city will not pay top dollar for a top product. In this city we will buy whatever beer is cheapest, mainly because we consume so much of the stuff, but whatever. Look at Minhaus, they came in cheap & stormed the market. Labbatts & Molson had to make a mad dash & stop the bleeding by dropping prices on "Lucky & Molson Dry" respectfully. The big brands had to promote the stuffing out of themselves (shirts, hats, glasses, etc.) Even Fort Garry is having a tough time of it, because we just don't seem to by local anymore. Check out any Wal-Mart on any given Saturday for examples of that.
